....to send delegation to meet Governor Obaseki in Edo State.

Following the rancorous reception accorded the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, members of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the United States have apologized to the Edo State Governor for the behaviour of some of their members at the UNGA.

Some members of the AAC who were protesting against the continued detention of the presidential candidate of the AAC at the 2019 elections, Mr Omoyele Sowore were said to have heckled the governor after leaving the UN building shortly after participating at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly.

A statement released by a spokesperson of the AAC Diaspora network, Mr Kunle Adelaja apologised to the governor and government of Edo state for the unfortunate incident and went further to state that Governor Obaseki was not their intended target but President Muhammadu Buhari, and the incident was a case of misplaced aggression owing to their displeasure of not seeing the Nigerian leader to vent out their frustrations over the detention of Mr Sowore.

He went further to state that Governor Obaseki was one of the few performing governors in the country who have done the nation proud and never deserved such vituperations from its members and to this end, the leadership of the AAC Diaspora Network have resolved to send a peace delegation of AAC members based in the diaspora to visit Edo State and formally tender a letter of unreserved apology to the Governor Obaseki and the good people of Edo state in the coming weeks.

As at press time, Edo State government is yet to formally issue a press statement concerning the incident.
