Kidnappers of Edo Line passengers are reportedly demanding ₦15Million to free each passenger.

About 29-30 travellers, some on Edo Line and others in a SIENNA car were recently commandeered into a forest near Benin City by kidnappers, who operated unchallenged—underscoring the rising insecurity bedeviling Edo.

Edo Police Command in concert with the Okpebholo-led government however reported to have rescued 16 of the kidnapped passengers, a report that has been denounced in several quarters as a big, fat lie.

"If you claim to have rescued 16 passengers from kidnappers' den, what then happened to the kidnappers, did you let them go, or they were asleep at the time of the rescue", many have asked.

The silence of the Edo State government since the news broke has also been queried—concerned persons and groups have noted that the lack of policy on security and the dismantling of the past government's security infrastructure by the current administration contributes extensively to the rising insecurity in the State.
