Edo may have become Nigeria's kidnapping capital, as kidnapping activities daily goes unrepelled—the State's porous security architecture has become a deepening concern for residents, many of whom daily ply Edo roads with their hearts in their mouths.
The roads are bad, insecurity is all-time high with government appearing not to know what to do—the question is, what are the policies of the State government on security?
The solution is simple: beyond distributing bikes to locals—engage the services of reputable security experts alongside the conventional security apparatus, Police, DSS, Army, Local Vigilante and the community, draw a workable security architecture, build a drone system, fall back on the dismantled CCTV monitoring apparatus of the past government, deploy men and materials into the forests and flush them out—and rescue residents from the fangs of daredevil kidnappers.
The Okpebholo-led government must look beyond primitive politics and draw up strategies to provide quality governance to the people of Edo State.
Edo is significantly backward and not doing well in any of the sectors—security, education, health, infrastructure, economy, etc—governance is poor and the daily discourse seems to revolve around politics, posing a significant threat to the instrument of governance.
Governance is beyond parading self as governor—it is a huge responsibility demanding tact, social reengineering and quality leadership—elections are long over, now is the time to work and save Edo people from the brutal force of kidnappers who daily ply our roads to cause havoc.
