The Executive Governor of Edo State,
Mr. Godwin Obaseki
SPECIAL APPEAL FOR GOVERNMENT CONTINUED PRESENCE AT EKPOMA AND ITS ENVIRONS
We are happy to welcome you to the land of Ekpoma and also to thank you for identifying with the Prof. Ambrose Alli Day celebration. Most especially, the CONCERNED EKPOMA EMINENT STAKEHOLDERS FORUM (CEESF) wholeheartedly joins all the good people of Ekpoma to welcome you.
CEESF is a pressure group made up of prominent inhabitants of Ekpoma whose primary purpose is to engage government, its agencies and stakeholders for the betterment of Ekpoma in areas of development. The body is registered with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Benin City, Edo State. Also, the body came into existence in June, 2017 when Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Ekpoma branch took advantage of our docility not to provide pre-paid meters to her customers, incessant estimated billing, the use of uniformed men to disconnect customers, no regular supply of light as well as non repair of faulty poles and transformers.
As stakeholders in the Edo project, we cannot fold our hands,
His Excellency sir, your coming to identify with us today affords us another opportunity to reflect on some challenges faced by inhabitants. The challenges range from bad state of our roads, water challenges, insecurity to mention but a few.
ON EKPOMA ROADS REHABILITATION: We want to commend the State Government for their forthrightness to commence the construction of roads from Ebhakhala to Iruekpen. We also want to inform the governor that the work is currently on going. We commend the contractor SKAFF construction company for the work so far and equally to appeal to them to ensure that the best quality is what is done to enable it stand in test of time. Sir, it is on record today that most of the roads in Ekpoma where the once constructed by the man we are celebrating today. These roads are now in bad states as a result of increase in vehicular movement most especially when the express road failed. Roads like Ukpenu, Ujoelen etc. Sir, we are disturbed at the rate at which the contractor handling the express road is performing. We have made series of engagement to the company yet nothing works well. Even their so called palliatives could not stand for a week. Sir, kindly revisit their activities.
ON WATER SITUATION IN EKPOMA: His Excellency Sir, we want to inform you that most public (government constructed) boreholes visited within Ekpoma metropolis require minimal repairs to make them functioning. It was observed that the neglect/lack of adequate maintenance of the boreholes were due to change of political power from one party to another. The boreholes that need urgent attention are as followings: The boreholes close to Ukpenu Primary school, St. Andrew Anglican Church Eguare and the one along borehole road all in Ekpoma. We want to appeal to His Excellency to direct the appropriate Ministry to assist Ekpoma community in repairing the faulty boreholes as the dry season is fast approaching. In addition government can revisit the dam projects started by Professor Ambrose Alli at Ogedegbe and upgrade the AAU, Dam inside the university.
ON THE ISSUE OF STREET LIGHT IN EKPOMA: His Excellency Sir, we want to inform you that sometimes in 2014, the then state governor directed the mounting of street light around the Eguare Axis of Ekpoma. This was done as directed but not without its challenges. The street light was mounted and Ekpoma town was lit up with businesses activities extending to 8pm. Though, our road was badly affected during the process of laying the cables and wires which the contractor never returned to fix. Sir, this was the genesis of the bad state of Ekpoma roads as the cut portions of the roads degenerated into death traps. Sir, as we speak, the street light did not work up to a year before they developed faults and subsequently removed and returned to the Esan West Local Government Secretariat. We want to appeal to you to please look at the possibility of rehabilitating the street light project as this will boost the economy, business environment and security situation in Ekpoma.
AMBROSE ALLI UNIVERSITY EKPOMA, Sir, the University is the only major industry producing the needed manpower and employing a sizeable number of persons. The university activities greatly affect the economy of Ekpoma. Over the years, several efforts have been instituted to upgrade the quality and quantity of infrastructure and personnel in the School. Sir, we can not but appreciate the efforts of the university management to ensure that the school gets running. Sir, we would like to have more state presence and increased funding in the University. Education is a long term investment and it is believed that when you invest in human capital, all other sectors will grow. It is in this regards also that we want to appeal that the AAU Council should be inaugurated as soon as possible. The benefits are indeed enormous.
ON SECURITY IN EKPOMA. No doubt Sir the various security agencies in Ekpoma are trying to give in their best. Sir, their best are often limited by the number of available working tools. It is greatly appalling that, in a community like Ekpoma the Nigeria Police division for instance can not boast of a vehicle that can effectively chase somebody running on foot. It is in this direction that we urgently appeal that customised patrol vehicles and bikes should be made available. The recent killings in Ekpoma would have been aborted if some if these work aided tools were available. Sir, the early implementation of your security infrastructure / strategy is critical now.
Conclusion.
His Excellency sir, we believe in you. We sincerely trust in you. We are indeed very hopeful that something great will begin to happen with your visit to Ekpoma.
This you have started in some parts of Edo and can also be extended to Ekpoma.
Let's continue from where Prof. Alli stopped.
Accept the assurances of our highest regards please.
