*DELTA SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT, WHY APC DELEGATES AND PARTY CHIEFTAINS SHOULD SUPPORT CHIEF MICHAEL JOHNNY'S CANDIDATURE.*

Crusaderhotnews

As the battle for the race to occupy the Red Chambers draws near,  delegates and party chieftains of the All Progressives Congress  (APC), should consider the merits of making Chief Michael Johnny its flag-bearer, if it hopes to clinch the seat of Delta South Senatorial District.

Available record indicates an electoral imbalance in Delta South senatorial district in the past sixteen years of PDP’s reign. This is taking into cognizance, the neglect of the Ijaw ethnic group in the political equation of Delta South senatorial district. How? You may may want to ask.

Delta South senatorial district is made up Ijaws (who happen to be in the majority numerically speaking), then the Isokos, Itsekiris and Uhrobos. Since the inception of this current democratic dispensation, the Ijaws, who are known to be in the majority from the Senatorial District, have not been given a shot to govern our dear Delta state.

We had our first shot at the Senate in 2003 with PDP's James Manager who took over from Senator Stella Omo. This arrangement was strictly  PDP's arrangement. We are all aware that the PDP was operating a one party system of Government in the state and as such, whatever, whoever they pick as flag-bearer wins.

From 2003 till date, Sen. James Manager has remained the senator representing Delta South senatorial district under PDP government. This is rather skewed, but unfortunately the People's Democic Party (PDP),  in their usual manner did not see anything wrong in this arrangement.

In 2015, the PDP which has being the ruling party in the state, decided to cede the deputy governor's slot to the Ijaws. This would have been a starting point for the Ijaws to position themselves for actualization of producing a governor in Delta state. Unfortunately, the deputy governor is not a grass-rooted politician, which has extinguished the governorship dream of the Ijaws.

Chief Micheal Johnny over the years have observed these trends of how the  Ijaws have been marginalized by the PDP in the state. This was one of the reasons he left the party in 2015. Sadly, Sen. James Manager who was expected to speak against this marginalization as a frontline Ijaw politician, chose to remain mute, as he hopes to use it as a political capital with which to fuel his own governorshIp  ambition come 2023.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its delegates should be mindful of ceding the Delta South Senatorial ticket of the party a man who just joined the party because he couldn't slug it out with some forces within the PDP even as a former governor. His inability to find his way within the PDP speaks volume of his lack of political clout to swing the pendulum of victory in favour of the APC.

The fact remains that, only an Ijaw candidate can unseat the PDP’s Sen. James Manager or any other candidate they present in the Delta South senatorial district election. Former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and Senator James Manager have been in power since 1999, if we re to rate them on a scale of 1-10, we all know both politicians have failed Delta South Senatorial District.

The fortune of the APC in Delta South Senatorial District, will to a large extent determine the party's victory in the state, and as such we must present a candidate with the grass-roots spread, some who appeals to the electorates, and Chief Michael Johnny suits this description.
