Prominent chieftains of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo State defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the weekend.
In separate rallies held in Fugar, Etsako Central local government area and Okpella, Etsako East local government area, PDP received thousands of former APC faithfuls who took turns to berate the APC saying they lack the capacity to deliver on its promises to Nigerians.
In Fugar, the decampees were led by one of the founding fathers of APC in the local government Chief Ekpen Abu who pledged he and his supporters readiness to work with the party to win the next election in the area and State in general.
In Okpella, Estako East, the Former Special Adviser/ commissioner on media to then Governor Adams Oshiomhole, now factional chairman of APC, led thousands of his supporters to PDP.
Prince Kassim Afegbua who was received by the State leadership of the party led by Chief Dan Orbih, State party chairman, said he took the bold step to return to the party, because of the neglect and discrimination his people had been subjected to under the APC.
He said that though he served in the APC Government in the State for eight years, he was not happy with the condition of roads and development in the community.
He explained that in spite of his complaints, nothing was done. Instead, he observed the allocation of huge resources to wasteful and egocentric projects by Governor Adams Oshiomhole to his community to the detriment of the Afemai land!
" I feel the pain of the people each time I come home, worse is that for nine months now there has been no light in this community ". He concluded.
While receiving the decampees, Chief Dan Orbih said that he appreciates the problems and pains of the community. He went further to say that the party was sympathetic with flood victims in the locality, and condemned the state government slow response to their plight. He disclosed that the party was aware of donations of relief materials donated by several Federal Government agencies and warned the state government against diversion of the items. He expressed reservation on government capacity and sincerity to handle relief materials especially as this government has a history of diverting donated relief materials.
He also lamented the State of roads and development in the community, saying its a major reasons for APC members in the community defecting.
