The United kingdom (UK) chapter of the Ambrose Ali university alumni Association has bestow books and journals valued at almost 10 million naira to the university.
The books were presented to the vice- chancellor, prof ignatuis A. Onimawo, ably presented by deputy vice - chancellor (administration) prof Jude Agho at the vice- chancellor's office on Monday 18th March 2019.
On ground to make the presentation were Mrs Doris oguoko, the chairperson of the UK chapter, Mr comrad ononeme, the publicity secretary and Mr Richard George, Alumni Representative of the AAU governing council.
They travelled all the way from London to make the presentation. Also on ground were the Benin branch chairman Mr, Percy okojie and a member of the home branch Mrs Felicia Akhimien.
Addressing the vice- chancellor during the presentation the UK branch chairperson said the branch was inspired to put this donation together because they are now persuaded that the bestow of the Alumni would be put to good use.
She said the thought seed for the donation was planted by the university librarian, Dr (Mrs) Jane Aba at the instance of the vice- chancellor.
The project was driven and co-ordinates by Richard George and the funding was by active members of the Alumni in the UK, about 85 members strong.
She said they felt happy and fulfilled to give back to the university that made them.
He said the "Alumni UK 1000 book project " was part of an on- going project.
Their aim is to support the university in its developmental strides and inspire to assist the new generation of students in their studies.
She stressed the need for integrity and transparency in the use of the donations.
The vice- chancellor in his response thanks the Alumni for their kind and selfless contributions.
He said the university has embarked on an unprecedented regime of development and the donation from the Alumni in the UK was a great encouragement.
He asked the Alumni not to relent in their efforts aimed at giving back to the university.
He wished them a safe and journey mercies back to UK.
The team of Alumni afterwards made a tour of the university library and the new structures springing up in the university.
They expressed great delight at the infrastructural and academic development, calling it a revolution that needs much publicity.
