There is no gainsaying the fact that a sizable number of our Party members have developed double-mindedness, reduced loyalty and commitment and unhealthy opinion about our Great Party, the APC here in Edo State; methinks that any election that holds today may not work in favour of the APC
Particularly going by a seeming conspiracy of silence that exists between Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Gov. Godwin Obaseki over the largely speculated feud between the duo; naturally, Oshiomhole will not cast stones against the office and person of the Edo State Governor owing to his stakeholdership as immediate past Governor, an office he graciously occupied for eight (8) years; he (Oshiomhole) is by virtue of this and natural justice expected to protect the sanctity of the Office of Governor
However, members of any political party possesses the instruments; financial, political or other logistical wherewithal to instigate key political leaders against themselves often times when they (members) feel dissatisfied with the administrative style of the Party or Governor who is the leader and forerunner of his political party as well as the State
This is exactly what is playing out in Edo State APC, which going by happenstances, seems to have escalated to the point of irreconcilability
It has never been that a youth leader of a political party will threaten to slap a Governor in this case Tony Kabaka; while another member alleges that the Governor has spent over N1billion on social media in this case Henry Idahagbon with Samson Osagie calling for the replacement of Governor in 2020; a certain Jonhson Mayaki, an interim Chief Press Secretary to the Governor is daily engaging the press to demonize the Governor
A situation where you have a sitting Governor with the intention to run for second time, and at the same time, a section of his Party projects other frontliners to possibly replace him is a testament of the division that currently exists in that Party; Ambode was at Alausa Government House when Sanwo-Olu was handpicked to replace him, thereby frustrating Ambode's second term bid; we may want to say that even at that, the APC still captured Lagos
Comparing the foundation upon which the Lagos APC is built to that upon which the Edo APC is built is like the comparison between an ant and the elephant; Bola Tinubu has given his "blood" and that of his generation unborn to cement the Lagos APC on solid ground; even if it remains only Tinubu as the only member APC Lagos has, the party may still win elections
At the Edo home front, the APC is struggling to find her footing; there appear to be a backtrack in the level of loyalty and commitment; activities are scarce; intellectual discourse come almost at no time, members have raised issues of abandon; cases where certain members who have hitherto been greatly empowered by the Party now lay coals on Governor Obaseki abounds; opposition PDP have become letter writers advising an APC Governor to destroy his own Party members - obviously these are not good times for Edo APC
It is now important for the Edo APC to engage in a productive roundtable talk to address the issues currently posing major threats to her as it concerns the 2020 Edo guber poll; we must now be able to ascertain members who will not promote anti-party activities preparatory 2020; we must also be able to identify people with the potentiality to work against the APC's victory in 2020 without them necessarily defecting to opposition
Not until this critical discussion is done, anti-party activities will be a huge selling point amongst many members of the APC in 2020 and the best time to avert an unpalatable future occurrence is now
APC must immediately regroup today to avert the coal of deceit, betrayal and hypocrisy that stares at her tomorrow
