FREEPRESS – Uneasy calm has enveloped the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, following the recent sack of APC appointees in Egor Local Government Council.
The news which came as a shock to members of the party in Edo, on Monday, was said to have been ordered by Governor Godwin Obaseki for the Council Chairman, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia to carry out within 48 minutes.
While APC leaders are staggered by the action, members of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been seen celebrating the actions.
CAMPUS GIST monitored some PDP members both on ground and on social media who were in ecstasy over the action.
Pharez Okpere and Ogbeide Ifaluyi Isibor, PDP youth members, commended Governor Obaseki for the action but said it was too little as he should extend the action to his kitchen cabinet.
Specifically, Ogbeide asked the governor to sack the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Paul Ohunbanu and; Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Adesotu.
They asked the governor to cleanse his cabinet of all Oshiomole’s loyalists across the state.
CAMPUS GIST also spoke to a top leader of the APC in Egor who described the governor’s action as political suicide.
The leader who pleaded anonymity said even in the heat of politics when Oshiomhole forced the governor on the party, the former governor did not sack anyone “not even some of his assistants who openly worked against his candidate.”
“The worst action Oshiomole did was to stop their salaries till after the election,” he said.
“The recent action of the governor is political suicide as we hear that the action will cut across all 18 LGAs. It shows that his enemies who are advising him are very close to him.”
