In response to the fire outbreak that consumed a massive transformer in Transmission Company of Nigeria in the early hours of today in their Sapele Road regional office, TCN has released a statement indicting the Benin Electricity Distribution Company and other DISCOs as the cause.
In its statement, it alluded it to a very high voltage due to a massive drop of load by the distribution companies.
Paragraph three of the statement was clear on the cause of fire outbreak that destroyed the equipment. The TCN had always blamed the DISCOs for not taking enough load to power households and industries.
The BEDC and others don't take adequate. power from the TCN because they can distribute in a staggered arrangement and still make profits from estimated bills. The volume of energy domiciled in TCN in Benin region is enough to give residents electricity but Funke Osibodu and BEDC would rather just take little of it for distribution.
Due to their refusal to evacuate the load available in TCN, it has caused a fire that destroyed the giant equipment. In the coming months, a lot of electricity customers will remain in darkness. Let us push for the distribution of prepaid meters as analogue meters are not read by officials of the BEDC who still deliver estimated bills on them even when functional.
