Obaseki working hard to deliver on campaign promises, says Mayaki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State is working hard to deliver on his campaign promises, his Chief Press Secretary, Mr John Mayaki, has said.

Mr Mayaki, who stated this during an interview with journalists in Benin, also gave insight into the activities of the governor in the last 100 Days.

He, however, appealed to the people to keep faith with the Obaseki-led administration as he (Obaseki) is striving hard to deliver on these promises.

Noting that some remarkable achievements have been made in the area of road rehabilitation and reconstruction within the Benin metropolis, Edo Central and Edo North, the Chief Press Secretary also stressed that a template has been developed that would guide the government.

He said the template, which would cover all the ministries, was developed by the government through series of workshops and in conjunction with the best brains in the various sectors of governance.

In addition, Mr Mayaki said the template, which would also guide the activities of civil commissioners to be appointed by the governor in their various ministries, is partly responsible for the delay in their appointment.

“I am using this opportunity to appeal to the people to remain patient with the government as we are not unmindful of their yearnings and aspirations. The government is poised to deliver on its campaign promises. In fact, I want to assure them that in no time, they would soon start seeing the government deliver on these promises,” he stated.

According to him, “In the last 100 days, I can assure you that the template has been set and the rest will come into place like a chain reaction. Already, people are registering on an online portal for the Edo jobs programme. Those that will become agripreneurs cannot do it alone, so they will have to employ more people.

“As far as agriculture is concerned, produce such as rice and maize farming, piggery, among others, the people will soon begin to see the manifestation of the groundwork the governor has laid,” he said.

He further revealed that to generate more job opportunities, the government has entered into some agreements that would see some parts of the state have uninterrupted power supply.

“His trips overseas was to meet with investors with splendid records of accomplishment – I don’t mean the portfolio investors coming to invest in the state. We have Azura already in the state employing people, and we have signed another MoU with Siemens already”, he revealed.

While noting that the government was open to constructive criticism in the bid to deliver on its mandate, Mr Mayaki urged people to play their parts in ensuring that the government succeeds.

He said that people must also fulfil their parts in ensuring the payment of taxes due them adding that the government was reorganising tax collection to eliminate the issue of double taxation as well as ensuring it was conducted humanely.
