Edo State House of Assembly members-elect who have refused to be inaugurated and currently in Abuja have been asked to return to Edo State and be inaugurated and perform the law-making function for which they were elected.
The call was made in Benin City on Wednesday by the group OneEdo, a Pan Edo Group.
Leader of the group, Felix Isibor, said: "The members-elect were so elected to represent their people in the Edo State House of Assembly and make laws that will enhance the lives of our people. We did not elect them to go and be galavanting in Abuja, posing for photo sessions in the National Assembly, while their seats at the Edo State House of Assembly are empty.
"The legislature is too crucial an organ of government to be trivialised the way the members-elect have been doing. So many issues which Edo people in the various state constituencies have lined up to be acted upon by the members-elect have been abandoned for Abuja shawama, pepper soup and suya."
Isibor advised the members-elect: "I wish to call on the members-elect; Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror; Saed Oshiomhole; Osifo Washington; Hon. Crosby Eribo; Sunday Aghedo;Vincent Uwadiae; Chris Okaeben; Onaiwu Dumez and others who have gone AWOL to come home and present themselves for inauguration and do the job they were elected for. We did not elect them to go to Abuja. We have our Federal House of Representatives Members and Senators that Edo people elected to represent them in the National Assembly.
"Our members are ashamed to learn that the members-elect are in Abuja to ask the National Assembly to come and take over the Edo State House of Assembly. Are the members-elect saying they are incapable of resolving their internal issues here in Edo State House of Assembly?"
OneEdo Group noted that: "It is disheartening to see the bad image the members-elect are giving to Edo State. Those who have been inaugurated are men like them and we wonder why they abandoned their mandate over minor issues. They should be courageous enough to discuss their differences and not create unnecessary drama."
