EYM to Edo Govt: provide teachers for public schools in Edo Central

Crusaderhotnews

The Esan Youths Movement (EYM), the apex socio-cultural development organization in Esan land comprising of over 50,000 members worldwide has called on the Edo State Government led by His Excellency Mr Godwin Obaseki to provide teachers for public secondary  schools in Edo Central Senatorial district also known as Esanland.

This call was made by EYM following the shocking revelation made during the recently concluded Edo Central Science and Mathematic Quiz Competition which featured over 80 public and private secondary schools in the region from which first, second and third positions were won by privately owned schools.

EYM in an effort to discover the reasons behind the poor performance of public schools in the event discovered that most public schools lack teachers to teach the students especially science subjects.

Some of the principals interviewed revealed the pathetic state of schools.

Some schools had just 3 teachers in the secondary session while some had 4 thus the remote reason behind their poor performance.

This also point to why most public schools could not summon the courage to feature their students in the programme for fear of the outcome because "you don't give what you don't have" one of the principal who did not want her name in print revealed sadly.

The above established pathetic revelation spurred EYM to send a clarion call to the governor in an  SOS letter also copied to the Commissioner for Education, Ministry of Science and Technology,

Edo State House of Assembly and the Senator Representing Edo Central Senatorial District also made available to the mass media.

In the said letter, EYM laments the  poor state of schools in Esanland and called on the state government and other agencies of government to remedy the situation saying developing education is not only in buildings but mainly in providing teachers to teach the students. The letter reads:
Mr Godwin Obaseki,

The Executive Governor of Edo State, Government House, Benin City Edo State.
Sir,

Feedback/Observation on recently concluded Edo Central Science and Mathematics Quiz Competition
On behalf of the over 50,000 members of Esan Youths Movement (EYM), we write to intimate you of the outcome of the Edo Central Science and Mathematics Quiz Competition.

The event was a huge success and Lumen Christi International School Uromi, Mount Carmel Group of Schools Ekpoma and Don Bosco Science Academy Ukhun came out first, second and third position respectively. All are from the privately owned schools.

Our findings and observations in course of the events points to decadence in our public school system especially in Edo Central Senatorial district.

Most of the schools lack teachers to teach the students adequately to compete favourably with their colleagues in privately owned schools.

Some public schools did not even summon the courage to feature their students in the event for fear of the outcome.

A school principal laments that she has only three teachers in the whole of her Senior Secondary Session. Sir this is not good at all considering the fact that majority of pupils attend the public schools.

We believe strongly that you take matters of education very very serious. We therefore call on you to use your good office to correct this abnormality in our public schools by compelling the appropriate authorities and agencies to as a matter of urgency post more teachers to all the public schools in Edo Central Senatorial district.

We thank you for supporting the quiz programme and we expect you to take action on our feedback and observation.

Yours Faithfully,
For: Esan Youths Movement
Comrade Kingsley Ohens,
President.
