Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Flags-off Maternal And New-born Child Health Week

Ikpoba-Okha Local Government has flagged-off the 2019 Maternal and New-born Child Health Week
The exercise is geared towards protecting pregnant women and children against deadly diseases
Speaking at the event Tuesday at Ugbekun Primary Health Centre, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Chairman, Dr. Eric Osayande assured the women of his total commitment to their health and that of their children
Osayande said "it is always good for us to ensure that the time of immunization, Local Government will support; and I will continue to support our nurses, our doctors, to ensure that all those things that you mothers need in the area of health, you will get it"
Earlier, the Nutrition Officer at Ugbekun Health Centre, Mrs. D. Orhewere commended the women for coming out in their number to participate in the immunization exercise; Orhewere stated that the one-week long event will enable the administration of ante-natal and other health prescriptions to mothers and children
Meanwhile, the State Technical Facilitator, Mr. Aghatotikolo Ogbeide further sensitised the women on the need to reach out to other women in the community to equally participate in the exercise
Ogbeide applauded the women for submitting their children for the exercise and assured that the system will go a long way to prevent their children and wards from deadly diseases
Highpoint of the flag-off was the administration of the various new-born child prescriptions to the children by the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Chairman; the event also saw to the distribution of "mama's kits" to pregnant women who were present at the Centre
During the Maternal and New-born Child Health Week, several medical activities and administrations will be carried out, which includes Vitamin A for children 6-59 months, HIV test for pregnant women, immunization, malaria test, SP (sulphurdoxine; anti-malaria) RDT (rapid diagnosis text); others are deworming, excluton, sayana press and family planning
The Council Boss has directed the health administrators at the Centre to administer all medical prescriptions and activities to pregnant women and children free of charge; urging the women to report any case of financial charges to his office
On the Chairman's entourage were the Secretary to the Local Government, Barr. Osagie Igbinomwanhia, Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. Daniel Odekina, Director of Administrative and General Services, Mr. Frank Osa-Idahosa, Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Patience Ojo and APC Chieftain, Pst. Blessed Ighiwiyisi
The week-long event which kicked off Tuesday 27th August, will climax Sunday 1st September, 2019
