The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Orhionmwon Local Government Area yesterday reaffirmed Governor Godwin Obaseki position as the leader of the party in the state.
The decision was reached during the APC monthly routine meeting held to evaluate the activities of the party across the twelve wards of the local government.
The apex leader in the local government, Rt. Hon. Patrick Aisowieren, while speaking at the enlarge meeting, warned party members to henceforth desist from holding unauthorized political meetings. He specifically took a wipe on those holding meeting with Edo People Movement (EPM), saying the group is unknown to the party and should be disbanded.
The member representing Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde federal constituency said, "I want to warn those going about holding anti-party meetings, any political meeting called without the authority of the recognized organs of the party will not be condoned under my leadership. Any member caught holding meeting with EPM will be decisively deal with, using the instrumentality of the party disciplinary committee. We can no longer tolerate a situation where a card carrying member of APC will hold meetings to rubbish our state leader, Gov. Godwin Obaseki."
Speaking further, the Oza-born political tactician, said, "nothing is stopping Gov. Obaseki reelection, those fighting the governor are doing so for their personal selfish interest and we will resist them. No sane coach substitutes an outstanding player, Governor Obaseki performance is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf, his projects and empowerments are clustered across the 192 wards of Edo".
On his part, the LGA Chairman Elder Ben Oghumu cautioned those he described as 'hands of Esau but voice of Job' to as matter of urgency define their stand and stop playing hide and seek political games.
He charged ward chairmen and party executives to report any member no matter highly placed who engage in any act capable of causing disunity in the party.
The Special Adviser to Gov. Obaseki on Community Affairs, admonished Ward Chairmen to be careful of those who don't attend meeting called by leaders at the LGA level but found of taking prominent place in ward activities.
He said, "the time for dual loyalties is over, you can't be here and there at the same time, seating on the fence is dangerous politically. The former Council Boss concluded by saying 'we need majority to win elections but few to motivate that majority"
High point of the event was the unanimous endorsement of Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Rt. Hon. Philip Shuaibu for a second term as governor and deputy governor respectively.
Moving the motion for endorsement, Hon. Tony Osazuwa described Mr. Godwin Obaseki's performance in the last three years as outstanding. The motion was seconded by Hon. Orobosa Micheal Osaigbovo.
Those present at the meeting were Hon. Newman Oghomwen Ugiagbe (Special Adviser to Governor Obaseki); Hon. Osamwonyi Atu (EDOSOPADEC Rep), Senior Leaders, all the LGA Executives, the 12 Ward Chairmen, Youth/Women Leaders, serving and past Councilors, Leaders across the 12 Wards in Orhionmwon.
