Peace Corps of Nigeria, (PCN) has tasked Nigerians to shun vices and embrace the values of tolerance to foster peace and unity in the country.
The National Commandant of the Corps, Amb. Dickson Akoh gave the charge during Independent Day Peace Conference tagged "Deemphasizing Our Difference" held in Benin City the Edo State capital.
Amb. Akoh, represented by the Edo State Commandant, Patriot Franklin Eigbadon, urged Nigerians to keep faith in the strength of unity despite the multi-dimensional challenges confronting the nation.
He eulogized the outstanding sacrifices and contributions of heroes and heroines of Nigeria’s Independence in advancing the course of togetherness and development in the country.
“Peace is key to achieving sustainable development in any country and when peace ceases to exist in our country, the result is continuous rise in chaos, anarchy and global disharmony.
“As an organization, the peace corps is bound by oath of allegiance to preach peace and act peace”, he said.
While describing the fight for world peace as a veritable tool for the corps to achieve her goals, Akoh, said the Peace Corps is determined in sustaining peace campaigns in schools and other platforms.
