Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government, Dr. Eric Osayande has visited Santana Market, Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, which caught fire on Saturday night
The Chairman who paid an investigative visit on Sunday assured of his administration’s commitment to unravel the cause of the inferno
He has said a committee would be set-up on Monday to ascertain the remote and immediate cause of the fire which destroyed goods worth millions of naira
Dr. Osayande who sympathized with the traders urged them to be peaceful while the circumstances surrounding the wildfire is unraveled
He added “when I started as a Local Government Chairman, I met Dumez Road Market burnt and abandoned for almost 8 years; for which I have rebuilt over 300 new shops at Dumez, contractor is still working there; I have built 12 markets across the LGA, it is just unfortunate this one, a private market; however, I will offer my support to ensure that the market is rebuilt in record time”
Assuring the traders of his immediate financial support amidst their loss, Osayande said “I will take a list of your names and extend my regular financial support to you”
As at the time of filing in this report, the Iyeki of Santana Market was absent and so she could not be interviewed for her statement
Speaking on behalf of the traders, owner of Santana Market popularly known as Dogo appreciated the Chairman for his prompt response and assurance of support at rebuilding the market and reaching out to the traders
