...as Governor Obaseki snubs scheduled meeting, Ize Iyamu's planned defection hits brickwall.
As pressure mounts on the embattled National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to resign, efforts by Comrade Oshiomhole to reach a political solution between him and his successor, the Edo state Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki may have hit the rocks yet again.
It was gathered that as part of plans to resolve the lingering issue between the duo, Comrade Oshiomhole was said to have called a South South Stakeholders meeting at his residence in Abuja slated for today. The agenda of the meeting according to sources was two fold, to seek an end to the lingering crisis between the National Chairman and the Edo state governor and also to receive the former governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2016 gubernatorial election in Edo state, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu who recently dumped the PDP for the APC.
However wary of the past antecedents of the National Chairman and uncomfortable with the fact that the meeting was to hold at the private residence of the National Chairman, the Edo state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki alongside some other zonal leaders like the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Senator God'swill Akpabio, the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi and other leaders in the zone have all decided to boycott the meeting and have also instructed delegates from their states to refrain from attending as they have lost confidence in the National Chairman and have insisted that he steps down before any genuine reconciliation can take place.
Also, plans by Pastor Ize Iyamu to officially defect today to the APC at the residence of the National Chairman also seems to have failed, as he has been told that he can't defect at the National level, but has to go down to the Ward level to make his defection official, as leaders of the party have insisted that the constitution has to be followed before he can be accepted into the fold.
As at the time of filing the report, Governor Godwin Obaseki is set to swear in newly appointed Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants today in Benin City and has refused to accept entreaties by the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to attend the meeting in Abuja.
Reliable sources close to the National Chairman have revealed that the absence of Governor Obaseki from the planned meeting today in Abuja is said to have unsettled the National Chairman as he battles to save his job as Mr. Godwin Obaseki still remains the only APC governor from the zone for now.
