Oshiomhole Is APC Chairman By Day, Opposition By Night, Says Andrew Emwanta

An Edo Lawyer, Barr. Andrew Emwanta has described the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole as an APC leader by day and an opposition to his party by night.

Emwanta was responding to NAIJA CENTER queries on the split between the Oshiomhole and the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Barr Andrew Emwanta

The Edo lawyer said “It is sad to note that Oshiomhole has become an anti-thesis of who a responsible leader should be in politics. He is a national chairman of the ruling APC during the day and leader of the opposition at night in Edo State, where APC is also a ruling party. “

The lawyer said Oshiomhole has an evil agenda against Obaseki, adding that his intention is to blackmail him in the eyes of Edo people. He added, “the more he tries, the more it boomerangs.”

When asked if he hated the APC Chairman, Emwanta said: “I don’t hate him but dislike his inconsistencies, hatred for educated people in politics who don’t agree with him, his overbearing tendency towards Edo State Government.”

Advise For Oshiomhole

He advised Oshiomhole to spend more time doing the work of a National Chairman than interfering in the affairs of Edo State Government.

He added, “If he wants to come back into the Edo State Government, he should wait for 2023 and contest for the House of Assembly seat of his State constituency, which Seid, his younger brother has failed to occupy. The office of the godfather is not an elective position in Nigeria, neither is it an appointive position.

“It is sad to note that Oshiomhole has become an anti-thesis of who a responsible leader should be in politics. He is national chairman of the ruling APC during the day and leader of the opposition at night in Edo State, where APC is also a ruling party.

That makes him the worst Chairman any ruling party has produced since 1960 when Nigeria gained political independence from Britain.

Oshiomhole supported and promoted Obaseki governorship election against all odds. However, the duo fell out of wedlock after many of the APC members in Edo State claimed they had been neglected.

Answering questions on why Oshiomhole would defy his followers to bring Obaseki to power and suddenly plot to dethrone him, Emwanta said “That is what l meant by his being full of inconsistencies. Granted that he assisted Godwin Obaseki, his successor to become Governor of Edo State. But there was a caveat of non-interference in the day to day running of government between them. Oshiomhole himself once alluded to this gentleman agreement.

“I don’t think Godwin Obaseki with his background as an investment banker of repute would have signed-off the State taxpayers fund as part of any agreement with Aliyu Oshiomhole. Oshiomhole once fought against interference by perceived political godfathers while he was governor of Edo State.

“But, what do we find today? Oshiomhole wants to determine everything about Federal appointments that comes to the State. He wants to decide who becomes Speaker or sweeper of the Edo State House of Assembly.
“He wants thugs to be in charge of revenue collection in Edo State, against the present zero-tolerance policy of the Governor.

This same Oshiomhole fought all the political leaders from Edo South and Central districts, who brought him into politics and bankrolled his election in 2007. The list is endless. But, today he wants to be godfather without any opposition. Karma is what is coming upon Aliyu Oshiomhole.

“He plotted the removal of Dr Odigie Oyegun as National Chairman of the ruling APC, because of his inordinate ambition to occupy the same office. The nemesis of this singular act is what is conspiring with other of his evil acts to haunt him today.

Even members of his EPM, ( a group which now bears the sobriquet “Evil Peoples Movement”), can’t rescue him from the political bombshell that awaits him.”

Why He Likes Obaseki

His tenacity, courage, desire for human/infrastructural development, foresight and move against godfatherism.

His approach is more towards human development index than non-sustainable infrastructural development of those before him, with the exception of Prof. Ambrose Alli and Gen. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia.

On the current developmental stride in Edo State, the lawyer defended Obaseki that “Development is a gradual process. It took Aliyu Oshiomhole 8 years to put his on the sands of time. Lucky Igbinedion had the same 8 years. So why should Godwin Obaseki be an exception?”
