Godwin Obaseki Deserves Second Term – President Buhari December 1, 2019

Says…”Whoever Serves a First Term Successfully Deserves a Second Term.”

*Why Amaechi, Obaseki, Akpabio, Oyegun, Dakuku, State Chairmen, others boycotted Oshiomhole’s Caucus Meeting The caucus meeting convened by South-South Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the instance of Mr. Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole may have failed, judging from the renewed call for the sack of the APC chairman from office.

Insiders revealed to Midwest Herald that the sole agenda of the meeting was to give the suspended APC national chairman soft landing and to also pass a vote of confidence on him.

The aim too, was to strategize counter moves against the rising plots that is threatening his continued stay. This attempt may have failed as one of the ministers from South South, referred to the outcome as a “botched coup”.

A source who was present at the meeting explained that “the reason why majority of the leaders decided to stay away is to prevent being used to endorse Oshiomhole and stop the call for his removal as our party national chairman.”

Others who spoke with Midwest Herald at the venue, queried why the meeting was moved out of the zone and Edo State which is the only state with an APC governor.

He added that the caucus was hosted by Governor Obaseki the last time in Benin City successfully and wondered why it was moved to Abuja which hundreds of miles from any of the South South states.

Those that were invited but declined are some of the political heavy weights. They include Mr. Timipre Silva, Minister of Petroleum, Festus Keyamo SAN, Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Clem Agba, Minister for State, Budget and Planning.

Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Minsiter of Health, Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation, the Director General Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency NIMASA, Mr. Dakuku Peterside and Mr. Godswill Akpabio, Minsiter of Niger Delta were all missing.

Several Senators from the zone were also conspicuously absent, including Senator Francis Alimekhena. The absence of Agba, his nominee for ministerial post, and Alimekhena, who represents Oshiomohle’s senatorial district, gave the two times governor of Edo State out as hanging on the cliff edge with failing support.

An obviously deflated Oshiomhole spent much of time to appeal to those calling for his sack and also acknowledged the raging crisis in Edo State.

Unlike his earlier posturing when he had insisted on having his way and also openly showed his support for the now defunct Edo People’s Movement, the anti Obaseki’s group, with a brief to destabilize Edo State government, Oshiomhole was reported to be remorseful.

Midwest Herald checks confirmed that several APC leaders have bought into the crisis of confidence in the ruling party and with alleged support from a section of Aso Rock cabal.

Apart from the Secretary to Government of Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, other members of cabal are working to overthrow Oshiomhole.

The APC States Chairmen and the non-NWC NEC members that were prepared to sponsor no confidence vote on Oshiomhole expected have capitalised on the cautionary notes by President Mohammadu Buhari during the last contentious NEC meeting.

In a statement released by them on November 29, 2019, they submitted that “if there is member that has been validly suspended in APC today, it is Adams Oshiomhole.

“Fo r creating crises withing the party I’m Edo, his ward party executive committee had validly suspended him and his ward local government committee validly ratified the action of the ward level using the instrumentality of the APC Constitution.”

They are therefore insisting that Oshiomhole stand suspended in line with the constitution of APC. “His own case was concluded at those levels and does not require any action by NEC.

We stand to be corrected by any lawyer on the interpretation of our party Constitution.”

The non-NWC NEC members insisted. The group pointed to the admonition by the president that any party leader who fails to maintain the respect of his constituent and he is thrown out, it’s his problem and not the party.

“Whatever you do must be in line with Constitution of the party as from today to avoid wrong doing and correct any.” The aggrieved non-NWC NEC members quoted President Buhari to have said.

Meanwhile, the president has reiterated that Obaseki deserves a second term as the elected Governor of Edo on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He made the declaration last Friday in Abuja during the APC NEC meeting.

According to him, whoever serves a first term successfully deserves a second term.

“I contested and won my election and later sought for a second term, I believe whoever serves a first term successfully deserves a second term.”

President Mohammedu Buhari declared on November 22, 2019 at the APC NEC meeting in Abuja.

With these developments, the various opposition groups have empowered themselves to push their demands, especially the sack of Oshiomhole from office as national chairman.

They vowed not to abandon their call and demand because according to them, “…that is the only way APC can survive after the exit of President.
