Happily, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has no doubt quickly learnt the art of been the Chief Executive of Edo State
One cannot however imagine the suffocating situation the Governor has been subjected to in his bid to massage Oshiomhole before now; been his (Obaseki) predecessor, the principal campaign protagonist in the 2016 Edo gubernatorial election and the National Chairman of our great party, the APC, it will be natural for a successor-Governor to see himself eternally indepted to a predecessor who stood all out to ensure he emerged Governor
Particles of Oshiomhole's grandstanding, flagrant disregard for the person of Godwin Obaseki and the office of Governor has been made manifest on several occasions
Oshiomhole it was who stylishly referred to Gov. Obaseki as mosquito; Oshiomhole it was who upturned Obaseki's nomination for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), for which the office of MD of the Commission was sold to Delta; Oshiomhole it was who capitalized on the opportunity of Edo having two Ministerial slots to hurriedly nominate his kinsman, Clem Agba for a second slot as against the Governor's nomination; so much so that Mr. Godwin Obaseki had to cry out in the early days of the current political fisticuffs that "I can't be Governor and not be Governor"; it was from Oshiomhole's body language that members of EPM and other anti-Obaseki protagonists drew inspiration to launch verbal attacks on the Edo State Governor, so much so that a Tony Kabaka once threatened to slap the Governor
We are not unaware of Oshiomhole's involvement in the Edo State House of Assembly saga and how he has camped the 14 run-away Legislators in different hotels in Abuja, denying the various constituencies legislative representation; it is pitiable how a once-loved Oshiomhole has freight away his political capital, bringing dishonour, odium and ridicule to himself and by extension the office of the National Chairman; Oshiomhole has exposed his political immaturity and insensitivity, sponsoring political onslaught against an office he once occupied
His tone of late however, clearly suggests Oshiomhole and his EPM may have run out of ideas, perhaps it is beginning to dawn on them that "Edo is actually not Lagos, Obaseki is not Ambode and Oshiomhole is not Tinubu"; and by virtue of that, attempts to humiliate a sitting Governor on Edo soil, particularly one who hails from the Benin-speaking part of Edo State (Igodomigodo) will be viewed as an insult on the collective sensibilities of the Benin nation; only an "uncircumcised" Benin-Governor will entertain the misdemeanours of Oshiomhole and his EPM
The happenstances of recent past and the various defeats this group continue to face may prompt them to seek for peace with Gov. Godwin Obaseki; after all the Governor has not failed in his social contract agreement with Edo people and this continue to be his most potent winning streak
A mix of Oshiomhole's political rebellion and Osagie Ize-Iyamu's desperation for power cannot be said to be healthy for Edo State
Ize-Iyamu who has become a serial decampee, a regular governorship aspirant remains one huge political liabilty from Edo State, undermining the conditions of membership of the APC to join the party from the very top, in his own house further compounds Ize-Iyamu's political woes; we will not be superised to see Ize-Iyamu running back to the PDP after 2020 as he is currently an illegal, unrecognized member of the APC and as such will not be able to run for any political office until this political mistake is corrected; Ize-Iyamu ought to have joined the APC from his Unit, to Ward, then the Local Government Area, and the Senatorial District, after which the State Chapter of the APC would have formally recieved him into the fold
Godwin Obaseki ranks high in the comity of best performing Governors, it will be an irreplaceable loss for Edo State if after four successful years of productive governance, he does not return for consolidation, Edo cannot be taken aback to the days of unpopular politics, hence the need to continually go forward with Godwin Obaseki; as Governor, Obaseki has set a standard which if properly harnessed, will serve as a viable template for successive administrations to build upon
