Charged with the responsibilities of eliminating or minimizing corrupt practices in the public services, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, says it is more determined to make Ant-Corruption Crusade reflect and enhance Governance.
In a message conveyed by the Commissioner, Edo and Delta States, Barr Yusuf Olatunji on behalf of the Chairman, Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, during its procession, to mark world Anti-Corruption day, said, the Commission will continue to detect acts of corruption, embezzlement of public funds, abuse of office and prosecute them.
Recall that, the International Anti Corruption day is held annually across the globe with this year theme; "United Against Corruption".
Owasanoye warned that, corruption will be given utmost attention with degree of ruthlessness that the law permits.
His words: "Whichever example corruption is taken, it stands inimical as it destroys the capacity of institution to deliver the function of their mandate. The warning must be given, loud and clear, that the corrupt will be dealt with firmly".
Prof Owasanoye, explained that, the battle against corruption was currently ranging and their belief is that, it's not the sole responsibility of the Anti-Graft Agencies or Government alone but collective efforts of each and everyone as citizen of this great country.
He maintained that the fight against corruption can only succeed, if fought, at all levels and when countrymen cease to pay lip services, change their mentality and embrace transparency.
While reminding that, ICPC, is vested with the mandate to receive and investigates Report of corruption as well as prosecute offenders where necessary; he urged, stakeholders and institutions to use every opportunities avail them to build a better nation.
Earlier on her part, the President, Conference of non- Govermental Organizations, (CONGOs), Edo State, Mrs Daisy Abiola Idufueko, reiterated the standard set by the conference to build synergy with relevant agencies in Combating corrupt practices.
Idufueko, however, urged that, more advocacy engagement should be carried out, to correct and abate fears allayed by citizens over the true position of the Anti-Graft Agencies.
In a related development, the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) earlier on Monday disclosed it has recovered about N217.42 million between January and December.
The Benin Head, Zonal Office, Mukhtar Bello, who made the disclosure at the occasion of the World Anti-Corruption Day held in Benin City, revealed that, the zonal office has as well, secured 84 convictions and forfeiture of various properties including houses and vessels.
He stressed that, the zonal office was determined to win the fight against corruption through its preventive measures, diligent investigation and prosecution.
Bello explained that as part of its preventive measures, the office took sensitization campaign to members of the NYSC, secondary schools and higher institutions in the zone.
