In 2008 Oshoimhole came into power with a political structure built by Lucky Igbinedion, Ize Iyamu and others. Despite his popularity as a labour leader without the support of this political structure and huge financial investment from people like Godwin Obaseki and co he would have lost woefully.
We all knew what played out at the Court, it was for the support of Chief Tony Anenih who had some frackers with Prof. Osunbor that he was declared winner.( A story for another day)
He picked a deputy (Odubu) who was a member of the federal house of representative also to leverage on his political good will.
But what happened after he has successfully seen off a better part of his eight years in office with huge support from this persons. He fought all of them. Not one was spared.
Unlike Tinubu, Oshoimhole has never been in full control of Edo State politics. In his time he managed to secure one seat out of three at the senate, four federal house of representative seats out of nine seats available. He never had the house of assembly in full control. In fact PDP was in majority when he came in 2008. He has never won a presidential election for his party in Edo.
Today, in Edo the political power brokers are divided, with majority of them on the side of the seating Governor Godwin Obaseki. The opposition PDP equally boast of some political heavyweight despite the movement of Ize Iyamu to the Oshoimhole's camp.
If you conduct opnion poll in the streets of Edo out of every ten at least seven would okay Obaseki/Shaibu for a second term in office. It is not about APC, PDP or any other political party for that matter, but the Man Godwin Obaseki has lived up to the expectations of many Edolites. He has walked through the valley and shadows of the horrible political terrain in Edo State and has sanitised it. Truly Edo can never be Lagos. Which ever way you want to look at it Obaseki's Second term in office remains sacrosanct.
