EDOCSO HAS BEEN VINDICATED ONCE MORE:

Crusaderhotnews

A society were there existed not the civil society is destined for a doom. When we raised the issue of how some APC party leaders converted a supposedly Economic Stimulus Package to personal project thereby limiting beneficiaries to party members and their cronies, some 'oversabi' government spokespersons came heavily on us with all manner of insults and denigrating statements.

We have been vindicated as government have denied scheme and calls it a scam. There is no way the civil society can watch such activity that dichotomize the masses go on without lending a voice of condemnation to it.

Edo state government have come out boldly to distant self from the sham and must be applauded for doing so, this action of the state government will build trust and confidence from the people that, it is not a government of a political party alone but that of everybody.

Edo Civil Society Organisations have added more values to operations of government and the society at large than many government praise singers on social media. The government needs the review and criticism of the civil society to be able to feel the pulse of the people it was elected to serve. Edo state government should constitute a well thought out arrangement devoid of political interests to manage the proposed stimulus package for the people. Such persons should be of high credibility and trust from the people.

A civil society group whose members are unpaid volunteers that have given:

1. Free medical care to the masses
2. Offered the cheapest transport scheme in the state
3. The cabals in the power sector a fight years running
4. Citizens the power of their rights and continually defend their rights
5. Government institutions support and protection at different instances
6. The time to attend to petitions and responding to same with personal resources without support or subvention from anywhere

and many more time and space will fail us to enumerate is not a mean civil movement to be overlooked with disdain.

Anybody with government today can decamp to another side tomorrow if personal interests are not meant but the civil society continually stand with and for the people always.

*Coronavirus: Edo govt flays scam schemes, assures on economic stimulus package*

The Edo State Government has warned residents to be wary of scam schemes by unauthorised persons, who have been collating names and details of unsuspecting members of the public for an alleged relief package.

In a statement, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, distanced the state government from such sham, describing it as the handiwork of unscrupulous elements out to defraud unsuspecting residents.

He said the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration’s relief package is meant for the poor and vulnerable persons only, the details of which would be made public soon.

Osagie said, “The state government’s attention has been the drawn to the activities of some unauthorised persons who have been collating names and bank details of unsuspecting members of the public on behalf of the government for an alleged relief scheme.

“I want to clarify that the state government has not recruited anybody or group of persons to collate names or bank details on its behalf. Members of the public are advised to disregard the message.”

According to the governor’s aide, “The economic stimulus that has been developed by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to cushion the economic effect of coronavirus (COVID -19) outbreak in the state is targeted at the poor and vulnerable persons. We would explore the right channels in reaching out to these persons when the exercise kicks off.”

“We, however, urge residents to support the state government’s efforts to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the state by complying with the basic precautionary measures and other guidelines to contain the scourge,” he added.
