The Benin National Congress, (a socio-cultural organization) has distributed food relief materials to vulnerable households in Benin City, the Edo State capital to cushion the destructive effects of the novel COVID-19 and as well complement the Edo State Government's efforts in the fight to curtail the deadly disease

Over 600 homes has benefitted from the humanitarian initiative of the organization which held at the Unueru Secretariat of the Congress on Saturday

Distributing the items to beneficiaries, President of the group, Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo, speaking earlier to newsmen noted that the Congress has tasked her members and other good-spirited individuals in a unanimous decision by the Board of Trustees aimed at reaching out to poor homes in the break of CORONAVIRUS

Edokpolo said "Benin National Congress is a group that is living for others, we are part of these people, you can see them in their hundreds of thousands, they are all here to draw from the humanistic interventions of the BNC"

Speaking further, the BNC strongman said "we are complementing Government's intervention, we are complementing philanthropical interventions by well-meaning philanthropists"

Appreciating other individuals and groups who have also stand in the gap between government and the people amid the COVID-19, Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo acknowledged and appreciated the humanistic disposition of Rosemary Osula noting, "we are aware that Rosemary Osula-led Rosula Foundation is also doing their own, great philanthropists are doing their own, so we decided as a group, we have to do something"

Edokpolo, who further revealed that the Edo Forum of Patriots, another humanitarian group of Edo people, has equally rolled out millions to reach out to the less and underprivileged ones

The BNC President said that households will be going home with rice, beans, indomie, facemasks and the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended precautionary materials

Appreciating BNC's humanitarianism, a beneficiary, Mrs. Okoh said "we thank this group for their good works, this is the first of its kind in this area; we really commend them and ask God to continue to empower them"

Another beneficiry, Sis. Felicia who was obviously full of joy said "this is good; I am short of words I thank God for been a beneficiary of this distribution today; may God bless the giver"

The Benin National Congress, in its avered commitment to the well-being of the less-opportuned has launched a sensitization and palliatives project on Saturday to help in alleviating the sufferings of the members of the public, the group has reiterated its determination to continue to complement the productive policies and programmes of the Edo State government aimed at giving a better life to the people of Edo State in particular, Nigeria and the rest of the world in general

The group's President has said that the humanitarian initiative is continuous and will be moved from place to place in subsequent phases
