Police arraign woman, 42, over alleged assault on pregnant woman

Benin, May 21, 2020 (NAN) The Police Command in Edo, on Thursday, arraigned a 42-year-old woman, Kate Igbinosun, before an Ogbeson Chief Magistrates’ Court in Benin over alleged assault on a pregnant woman.

The defendant is being tried on one count charge of assault.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Abass Faruk told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan 18, 2020, at Upper Mission Extension Junction, Benin.

Faruk said that the defendant did
unlawfully assaulted Mrs Angel John by blowing her four months pregnant stomach with fist  and also  bite her.

According to him, the offence contravene Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 48, Vol. 11, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, now applicable in Edo.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her.

The Chief Magistrate, Prince Mutairu Oare, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.

He said that the surety must be a parent/ Guardian, adding that all information must be verified by the court Registrar.

The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the case till June 3, for further hearing. (NAN)
