Crisis Has Snowballed Into Wrangling Over The Governorship Ticket Of The APC - Tony Momoh

Crusaderhotnews

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC and associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, Tony Momoh has raised a fresh alarm over the ongoing feud between Governor of Edo state Godwin Obaseki and national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

Chief Momoh said if the ongoing tussle between both politicians continues would set Edo state on fire that would eventually lead to a blood-bath in the state.

Governor Obaseki and his erstwhile political godfather Oshiomhole have been locked in a leadership battle that threw the Stste House of Assembly into crisis that has resulted in the Assembly's inability to be inaugurated.

The crisis has snowballed into wrangling over the governorship ticket of the APC. while Obaseki has picked up his nomination and expression of interest form in readiness for the APC governorship primaries scheduled for June 22nd. But Oshiomhole is having none of that, insisting that the governor would not get the ticket and has reportedly thrown his weight behind Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

But as the crisis continues, Chief Momoh has warned that "if it is not resolved before the primary, I’m afraid we may experience bloodbath in Edo State, which is part of the Niger Delta and they don’t run away from violence. If we don’t tackle it fast, we may end up having a very violent primary, and people may go to court. "

Momoh a veteran journalist and chairman of Channels Television made this statements in an interview with a national daily on Sunday, noting that THE APC would lose the state to the main opposition party, the People's Democratic Party, PDP if the in-fighting continues.

"If we in the party do not resolve the internal misunderstanding in APC in Edo State as quickly as possible, we may end up losing the state, because the party is divided into two in Edo," he said.

He recalled how the APC with internal wrangling lost Rivers and Zamfara during the 2019 general elections.

" We have precedents in the party, we all saw the internal divisions in Zamfara APC and that of Rivers state. In Rivers we couldn't even contest the election due to series of court suits and injunctions. It was a field day for the PDP in Rivers. The Edo APC should learn from this. If the crisis persists, PDP would be the biggest gainer, " he said.
