The political atmosphere in Edo State has continued to heat up ahead of the September 19, 2020 Governorship election in the State.

Crusaderhotnews

For months now, it has been drama upon drama starting from the disqualification of Governor Obaseki by APC, his switch to the PDP, suits trying to stop Obaseki from contesting in PDP's primaries and so on. Recently, the drama has moved to the camp of the APC's candidate for the election, Pastor Osagie Ize-iyamu. First, it was his probe by the EFCC over an alleged laundering of about 700 Million Naira.

It has really been a rough road for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in his quest to become the next governor of Edo State come September 19, 2020. Recentky, the National Rescue Movement (NRM) approached the federal high Court in Abuja, praying the court to disqualify him and the APC from contesting in the forthcoming governorship election in the state. The suit cited section 177 (c) of the 1999 constitution as amended which averred that only the National Chairman of a party and it's secretary should sign the list of a party's candidate to be submitted to INEC. NRM argued that the letter containing the name of Ize-Iyamu and his running mate which was submitted to INEC was signed by Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe State.

National Rescue Movement also asked the Court to determine if by virtue of the 1999 constitution, INEC should lawfully admit that APC has submitted the list of their candidate since it was signed by a sitting governor. National Rescue Movement also prayed the court to declare that APC has no candidate for the election since the list was not signed by the party's chairman and equally disqualify Ize-Iyamu. With all these cases currently going on against the APC and its candidate, the edo state Governorship Election may have been lost and won.

It is not yet known, what the outcome of the suit will be, but one thing we know for sure is that it has been a long and rough road for Pastor Ize-Iyamu in his bid to become the nexr governor of Edo state. But what is yet to be known is whether this would be the end of the road for his Governorship Ambition.
