Two Criminals set Ablaze at Upper Sokponba road in Benin City

Crusaderhotnews

Worried by the rising crime wave in Edo State following the withdrawal of policemen from the streets, two young armed robbers were set ablaze yesterday in Benin.

The two ill-fated armed robbers out of a four man gang were apprehended at Upper Sakpoba area of the Edo State capital where they had gone to rob.

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki had Wednesday pleaded with the police to return to the streets and help in battling the epidemic of crime which has gripped the state following the withdrawal of policemen from the streets as a result of the #EndSARS Protest.

Unnerved by the action of the hoodlums who set the inmates at the two correctional centres in Benin (Sapele Road "White House" and Oko) free, policemen seem to be on "strike" as they have since vanished from the streets.

The other two robbers were however lucky to have escaped but the two unlucky ones were beaten to pulp before while tires soaked with petrol was placed on them before being set ablaze.

They were set ablaze right in the
middle of the road by the popular three junction to the applause of onlookers who lately, have been chaffing under the upsurge in crime wave following the #EndSARS Protest.

It could not be ascertained  what the armed robbers stole but an Upper Sakpoba resident who claimed to have witnessed the mob lynching disclosed that they were caught in the act.

Determined efforts to reach the Edo State Police spokesman, Mr. Chidi Nwanbuzor proved futile as he refused to pick calls on his mobile phone.
