A former Publicity Secretary of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Prince Francis Omo-Osunde Iyasere has advocated that PDP leadership should have a round table talk that will harmonize political appointments to accommodate every interest in the party.
He made this call in Benin City,the Edo State capital, while addressing journalists on the need for harmonization of political appointments to accommodate those that came with governor Obaseki from APC and those they met in the party.
Iyasere, who was a former South South Zonal Executive Officer cautioned that any attempt to leave any group behind will cause crisis in the party.
"I think harmonization is the best thing to do for both the PDP and those that came with Governor Godwin Obaseki from the All Progressive Congress (APC)The reason why we need to sit down and talk is because at the time they were joining the party, there was no time to sit down and talk on the sharing of government positions. There was no time to sit down and discuss the terms and conditions of staying together as a family,
"But that is not to be used as an instrument to cause problem in the party.It should not be seen to look like this person is for the governor and the other person is for the party. This will create division in the party. If the governor sees it to be that those that came with him were the people that worked for the success of his second tenure,he will be making a mistake and if he sees it that those in PDP before he came to the party were the ones that worked for his success, that will also be a mistake.There should be a meeting point."
He suggested that the leadership of both sides should meet and harmonize the positions.So that there will be no reason for those that came with the governor or those that were in PDP before the governor came to say they have been cheated.He also emphasized that the composition of government now is understandable,as the governor, his deputy and the SSG were the ones running the government before joining the PDP.
"Looking at the three persons running the government now, two of them came with the governor to join the PDP. Those in the party are saying,why can't the party be considered for the position of Secretary to the State Government (SSG),the three position are understandable, because before they joined the party, three of them have been the ones running the government.
"But,we are saying that every other appointments should be based on equity, that is why I suggested a meeting, or that a committee be set-up for harmonization of this positions,so that the party can move forward for coming elections,
"This will bring down tension and also give a sense of belonging to those who just joined the party.
"I am also saying that those that came with the governor should be given space in the executive position of the party from the Ward to the State level,as this will engender peace and trust in the party." He concluded.
