Edo State House of Assembly today passed the State flood, erosion and watershed Management Agency bill .
The passage of the bill followed receipt of copies sent to the House by the State Governor Mr Godwin Obaseki.
The Bill has among objectives mitigating the impact of flooding through an enabling Law.
leading debate on merits of the Bill ,Majority leader Rt.Hon. Henry Okhuarobo said it's passage has become imperative in view of ecological challenges across the state.
Deputy Whip, Hon. Ephraim Aluebhosele said the Bill is apt especially in improving the security of lives and property of citizens through addressing the menace of gully erosion threatening lives and livelihoods in the State .
The debate paved way for second and third reading after consideration of Title, Enactment, Citation, Objective and other , parts of the Bill.
The Speaker, Rt.Hon. Marcus Onobun directed the Clerk to forward clean copies of the Bill to the state Governor for his assent and to other relevant agencies.
The House at the committee of a whole also considered and passed the Bill for a Law to establish "Edo State public building and maintenance Agency"
Debate on passage of the Bill was supported by the Deputy Speaker Rt.Hon. Roland Asoro and other members who commended the State government for the facelift of the State Secretariat complex and some public buildings in the State.
Speaker, Rt.Hon. Marcus Onobun presented resolutions at the committee of a whole and the Bill was given a third reading and he thereafter directed the Clerk to forward clean copies of the Bill to the state Governor for his assent and to other relevant agencies.
Meanwhile, sequel to the passage of the Bill for a law to repeal the Edo state Audit Law 2019 and enact the Edo state Audit Law 2021 on Tuesday, the House Committee on Rules and Business has screened and cleared Chairman and members of of the State audit commission.
They are Emmanuel Omozuhiomwen Chairman, others are Abdulai Kasimu Osumah, Comfort Akhirebhulu, Osayaba Osarenren and Oduware Uwadiae as members.
The House Before adjournment observed a minute silence in honour of a staff in the accounting department Mr Joel Job who passed away recently.
