Speaker Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun has assured the  state Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Aniekan Udoeyup of the commitment of the House to enacting laws to tackle all forms of criminality.

Mr. Speaker made the pledge when he received the newly deployed Commandant, Mr. Udoeyup and his management team who paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Benin City.

Mr. Udoeyup who had earlier stated purpose of the visit was to familiarize himself with the leadership of state House of  Assembly, expressed readiness to work in synergy with other security agencies to tackle unruliness and criminality in the state.

The NSCDC state Commandant noted that while intelligence gathering remains key in the fight against crime, regular and routine patrol on the Benin- Auchi highway and other black spots across the state will help in reducing crime to it's barest minimum.

He therefore appealed to the speaker and state House of Assembly to provide necessary backing and technical support to carry out his job effectively.

Responding to the Commandant, Mr. Speaker commended Mr Udoeyup on the noticeable new reforms introduced to fight crime since assumption of office as he acknowledged the challenges the Edo people are faced with as regards the Benin-Auchi route.

Rt. Hon Onobun promised to leverage on the experience of the new commandant to address the perennial insecurity on the Benin -Auchi highway which has caused untold hardship to residents.

He guaranteed that the House of Assembly, as well as the State Government will continue to work together to create an enabling environment to assist law enforcement agencies to protect the lives of the people of Edo state.

“We as government our responsibility is to create an enabling environment for you to operate.

You have identified certain support that you and other sister agencies need, i want to assure you that we are working together with the executive, we know very well that alot has been done but alot still needs to be done.
