Edo State House of Assembly Committee on Environment in it's oversight function took a guided tour of erosion sites being managed by the state Nigeria Erosion Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP).
The Project Coordinator, Dr. Tom Obaseki and his project management team, led the lawmakers on the tour.
The lawmakers' first port of call was the NEWMAP's office situated in Palm House Secretariat on Sapele Road, Benin where they were treated to a show of video slides of the projects the NEWMAP is handling.
During the tour the lawmakers led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun and which included Rt. Hon. Roland Asoro(Deputy Speaker), Rt. Hon. Henry Okhuarobo (Majority Leader), Hon. Ephraim Otaigbe Aluebhosele (Deputy Whip) and Hon. Sunny Ojiezele(Chairman Committee on Environment) visited Edo College flood and gully site, Ogiso-Osunde flood control project site, Urora flood control project pond sites and routes, Iguosa flood and gully erosion project site, and Gapiona flood control project ponds and routes.
At the Edo College flood and gully site, a resident while welcoming the team to the site gave kudos to the NEWMAP for doing a thorough job.
Like Oliver Twist he used the opportunity to ask for more by soliciting the government to also focus on the road leading to the area.
In his response, Hon. Marcus thanked the resident while also commending him for his responsive nature to details.
He appealed to the residents to always pray for the State government.
He challenged the residents to always take cognizance of the huge amount of money that the government is investing in turning around the State for the better adding that they should take it as their duty to always ensure that the projects are well taken care of.
