Meters Allocated For Distribution To Customer, BEDC Has Taken Delivery Of 54,198 Out Of 75,870 - Says Funke

The Managing Director, Benin Electricity Distribution Company, (BEDC), Mrs. Funke Osibodu has appealed to consumers in the franchise states to help cum the continues vandalization of BEDC's property in the region.

According to Mrs. Osibodu, "BEDC has taken delivery of 54,198 out of the 75,870 meters allocated for distribution to customers under the NMMP Phase 0 level whilst BEDC has completed the installation of nearly 40,000 meters across the four states that we cover as at July 2021 ending. BEDC is installing meters on the pole to reduce the incidence of bypass and other forms of energy theft which is prevalent in the network."

The BEDC MD/CEO gave the breakdown during media parley at BEDC Head Office in Benin City, Edo State.

She said, "recall that in late 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari initiated the National Mass Metering Program (NMMP) with the mandate of ensuring that 1million meters are deployed to electricity customers nationwide. Each distribution company (Disco) was allocated a certain number of meters to be shared amongst their customers. 


"Generally, the NMMP has been proceeding well but slowed down a bit during this rainy season. Next Phase called Phase 1 will soon commence, 

"Between 2020 and now, despite the interruption caused by COVID, BEDC has commissioned some projects to boost network infrastructure and improve power availability to customers in its franchise. These include: 

"UNIBEN Ekenwan 15MVA — the UNIBEN 33/11KV injection substation has stabilized power supply to UNIBEN and environs."

33/11KV Injection substation Benin, Edo state; 

"DDPA, Warri 7.5MVA, 33/11KV Injection substation, in Delta state. When fully operational this substation will serve the Delta Development and Property Agency (DDPA) also known as Bendel Estate and greater part of Ugborokoko community also in Warri with separate feeders and improve their daily power availability from the former 2bdsys in 1 day out of supply.
 

"33KV LILO at Evbuabogun Injection substation Benin, Edo state. This has reduced the duration of interruption in electricity supply and outage to both commercial customers and communities in Evbuabogun and Evbuoriaria axis in Benin."

Going further, Mrs. Osibodu added, "We recently placed two project adverts in the Newspapers which are aimed at accelerating the infrastructure upgrade within BEDC franchise: 

"Advertisement for Expression of Interest & PreQualification of various Distribution related projects and procurements.

"Advertisement for pre-qualification of contractors for 132/33KV Transmission Lines and Substations Rehabilitation Projects & Equipment Supllies .This will provide massive investment in Accelerated Transmission - Distribution Interface projects in the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN)’s rehabilitation and expansion projects, which are being funded by the CBN. These processes are currently at various stages of procurements. 

"BEDC & NDPHC Collaboration BEDC recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) on the development of an end-to-end power generation and distribution across the value chain to deliver minimum of 250mw of additional power to boost power supply within our franchise areas. 


"We are to work together to identify and prioritize critical projects to increase power supply, whilst improving on technical and commercial environment. The focus will be to provide power supply to certain areas as well as upgrading of some critical distribution infrastructure," she said.

On the Relations between BEDC and Community, Mr. Osibodu emphasized: "Between 2019 and early this year, BEDC has connected a total number of 108 transformers back to the national grid across its franchise states of Delta, Edo, Ekiti and Ondo. Out of this figure, 34 were done in Edo, 55 done in Delta, 12 in Ondo, while 7 of such transformers were reconnected in Ekiti respectively. 

"Some of the benefiting communities are: In Edo are Woghiren-Ugbor in Etete,Iguadolor in Evbuotubu, Iyanamo and Ohoghobi Phase 2 in Etete, Egbaen, UBTH, Ekhor Nuwaya in Ikpoba Hill. 

"In Ekiti, we had Ijelu-Ekiti, jero-Ekiti, Omu-Ekiti, Erinmope and Hospital 2 communities. 

"In Ondo state, we had Graceland 2 Estate, Akure, Imoru and St. Catherine in Owo town, Oke-Ile, Odibo, Iluyemi, Okelusi, Ikota, Ibuji, and Erigi all in Igbara-Oke in Akure. 

"In Delta, communities that benefitted include; Odibo Layout in Warri, Idumu Ogo in Asaba, Okiirigbagha in Sapele, Aladja, Ogbe Tjoh in Otor Udu, Finger of God Estate, Ugboba, Ugbolu in Asaba, Church of God Mission, Warri, Obomkpa in Asaba, Aro in Ughelli and Owawa in Udu."
