The people of the riverine community of Ologbo, in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, were recently sent into a jubilation mood, as they hailed the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for the construction of a concrete pedestrian Jetty with waiting lounge and ultra-modern marine police base along Ologbo River to boost economic activities and increase revenue generation in their area.
The Jetty and it's assets were completed by the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Area Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC).
This is one of the numerous projects that dot the nooks and crannies of the Edo State in the last five years of The Obaseki led administration. A reputable technocrat, who has made giant strides visible for all to see.
He is able to achieve these courtesy of the peaceful coexistence and symbiotic relationship between the three arms of the State government viz Executive, Legislative and Judiciary.
The composition of the Edo State House of Assembly has however been a source of debate for quite a while, as the House continues to function at full capacity with 10 members despite the absence of 14 others who failed to present themselves for inauguration.
Due to their miscalculations and wilful subservience to some godfathers, 14 out of the 24-member abdicated their lawmaking roles, leaving the job for the remaining 10 members to conduct the business of lawmaking.
Ensuring that they are not found wanting in their legislative assignment, the 10 lawmakers in the house have combined their legislative duties with the task of reaching out to neighbouring constituencies whose renegade members-elect have abandoned.
Though they may be few, the 10 lawmakers can be likened to wise men who have delivered excellently on their roles and steered the affairs of the House with gravitas. They have considered and passed new laws; amended outdated laws; approved the State's budget; oversight Functions, screened commissioners and considered motions dutifully.
With their sterling performance, the 10 lawmakers should be given the choice of first refusal if they desire to either retain their legislative position in the State House of Assembly or seek higher political office (such as House of Representatives or Senate seats).
Like never before has the three arms of government worked so harmoniously, ensuring the right atmosphere for realisation of the MEGA Agenda of Governor Obaseki.
These 10 wise men under the sterling and able leadership of the Speaker, Rt.Hon. Marcus Onobun are indeed a force for development and progress in our dear State.
