NIGERIA STILL GROANING FROM THE EFFECTS OF TOXIC PETROL IMPORT

Crusaderhotnews

*( ONOSHOZE OF EDO STATE)*

Nigerians are still counting their losses from the effects of toxic petrol imported into the country from *Antwerp, Belgium, by Litasco, Geneva, Switzerland based oil firm with over 450 workforce through the following NNPC partners for engagement; MRS, OANDO, DUKE OIL and EMADEB/HYDE/AY MAIKIFI/ BRITTTANIA-U CONSORTIUM*

*Litasco*,an international marketing and trading company of Lukoil company has been leaked severally in sending substandard petroleum products to west Africa.

According to a report in 2016  by the human environment and transport inspectorate, LITASCO was indicted as one of the European companies that intentionally make use of  toxic blend stocks in mixing fuel and send to West Africa.

It is highly disturbing, that in a country where there are importation processes of petroleum products, toxic petrol could still get access to our market. I can say this for free, that there are specifications for fuel requirements.

Test are carried out on the content of fuel vessel before it leaves the port. And this is done to ensure it meet specifications.

Even on the high sea, test are carried out on the content and upon arrival in the *Atlas Cove Jetty in Lagos*.At this point,  the Nigeria midstream Downstream petroleum Regulatory Authority moves in to test the content to ensure it confirm with the Nigeria market. The highest methanol level for Nigeria is 2 percent while the imported toxic fuel has about 20 percent methanol level. What a shame!

The partners for engagement to import this product already know the standard requirements for Nigeria. So, what went wrong?

Nigerians are still counting their losses from damage of Automobiles, generators and equipments. 100 million litres of toxic petrol in Nigeria market is a joke taken too far. What a shame of a nation!

I therefore, urge the federal government to take the touchlight of investigation into this impunity and corruption and punish the offenders to avoid similar occurrence in future.

We have four refineries in Nigeria with a combine capacity of 445,000 bpd; two in portharcourt, one in warri and another in kaduna. We don't have business refining our crude in foreign countries. The Government should fix our refineries and make them Functional.

*A new Nigeria is Possible*
