FGC Warri Alumni, Benin branch commissions Solar Power Project in honour of Captain Hosa

Gone but not forgotten, captain Idahosa Wells Okunbo, a Nigerian business magnate, investor, philanthropist, and trained commercial pilot who died in August 2021, was on Tuesday in Warri immortalized by the old student association of Federal Government College, Warri, for his wholehearted and relentless service to his alma matter throughout his lifetime. 

Captain Idahosa Okunbo, who attended the Federal Government College Warri between 1970-1975, became the Grand Patron of the school Alumni, Benin branch and carried out various projects towards the development of the school, one of which was the Solar Lighting Project which he had commenced before his untimely death in a London hospital due to complications from pancreatic cancer but the Federal Government College Warri Old Students Association (FEGOCOWOSA) Benin branch, decided to continue the Solar Lighting Project in the school in a determined move to keep the memory of their departed grand patron alive. 

Speaking to the press at the commissioning of the Solar Lighting Project, the Chairman of the FEGOCOWOSA, Benin branch, Andrew Amadasun disclosed that the project is a call to serve. 

"To make conditions better for the students, we chose to do the lighting project. The idea was the brain child of our grand patron for whom we are here today. 

Our plan is to donate a total of 200 solar panels round the school and we have installed 35 already", the Benin branch Chairman revealed. 

The Principal of the Federal Government College Warri, Mr Inegbe Enoise, further eulogized the late Captain while delivering his welcome address in the school auditorium. 

"Take a look around you, you will see inside the assembly hall, green durable plastic chairs, the same in the school library, they were all donated to the school by Captain Hosa Okunbo. 

He single handedly provided the solar powered streetlights from the school dinning hall to the main gate and he has been promoting the girl child  education in Delta State as well. He could have decided to care less, but he did", the principal emphasized. 

Present at the launch, was the Olori Atuwatse lll of Warri Kingdom, Queen Ivie Okunbo, who is the first child and daughter of the late Captain Hosa and the wife of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse lll.

A very proud Queen Ivie Okunbo made it clear to newsmen that she is ready to carry on with the legacy of her late father.

"Light both literally and figuratively is an essential need of mankind. No one rejects light. Instead, we all crave and seek it for the direction, clarity, safety and warmth it brings. According to Allan Bloom, Education is the movement from darkness to light. 

Today marks a huge milestone for the institution and my family", the Olori of Warri revealed delightedly before announcing that she has decided to donate the money needed to complete the project to the Benin branch of FEGOCOWOSA.

Present at the occasion were old students of the school led by the Hon Justice Esther Amenaghawon Edigin a retired Chief Judge of Edo state.

Hon. Justice Esther Amenaghawon Edigin (rtd), the Chairman FEGOCOWOSA, Warri branch, Prince Akpobome Ejinyere, Secretary of FEGOCOWOSA, Benin branch, Osazee Peter Uwa-obaizamomwan and other executive members of the association, teachers, parents and some few students.

Federal Government College Warri was founded in 1966 in the then Bendel state now splited into Edo and Delta states.
