Edo NUJ Passes Vote Of Confidence On Comrade Festus Alenkhe led executive Council Members

Overwhelmed by the  achievements recorded so far  by the present Edo state leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,  members of the  Union on Wednesday rose in large numbers  in their monthly Congress and passed a votes of implicit confidence on the current Exco led by Comrade Festus Alenkhe.


The monthly Congress which was chaired by the state NUJ boss, Comrade Festus Alenkhe with all his exco in attendance  witnessed large turn out of journalists who came to cheer and look at the modern infrastructural facilities done by the new leadership.


More so, before the Congress passed a vote of confidence on the NUJ exco, the State Executive Committee (SEC), had earlier passed the same vote of confidence on the NUJ executive, as a result of the numerious projects they saw in the Edo NUJ secretariat in Benin city.


Addressing the Congress, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, thanked all members of the Edo state NUJ for their support, counsel, advise and prayers so far since the Exco assumed office on 17th December, 2021.


Comrade Alenkhe also briefed the House about the various  projects  in the Edo NUJ press center and other welfare packages for journalists.


He explained to the Congress that, before the next Congress, the  Exco will fence the premises with barb wire to prevent intruders from accessing the press center even as CCTV facilities have been installed for 24 hours in the center. 


Comrade Alenkhe told the members the efforts the exco and some members of the Union have made so far to recover the encroached NUJ lands in Auchi and Eyaen in Edo state."


The chairman also set up and inaugurated Compendium/Anti-Quacks Committee, a committee saddled with the duty of removing fake journalists among members of the Union.

Members of the committee are Ferdinand Osakue of ITV -Radio chapel, as Chairman, Comrade Joy Musa Aghedo EBS chapel who will serve as Secretary. Others are Idris Umar of Correspondents chapel, Osaretin Emokpae Bronze FM and Agatha Egware Ojo, from NTA chapel.


Inaugurating the Committee, the Edo NUJ chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe told the Committee to do their job according to the consititution that guide and protect the Union. He stressed that the committee are given three months to provide a compendium for the entire Edo NUJ. Comrade Festus Alenkhe said some States in Nigeria have the compendium already.


Comrade Alenkhe said that,  the essence of the compendium is to fish out quacks from the Union. He stated that during  the screening exercise, any one found to have submitted  fake academic certificates will be handed over to the police for prosecution.  


Responding, the Chairman of the Committee, Comrade Ferdinand Osakue assured the Exco and the entire members of the Edo state NUJ that  they will discharge their dutie without fear or favour.


Comrade Osakue commended the NUJ executive for given them the responsibility and promised not to  disappoint  members of the union.


The NUJ chairman explained to the House how GT Plaza had commenced the construction of an outlet in the Union premises.


Former Secretary of the Reliance chapel , Comrade Christopher Kadiri moved the motion of implicit confidence on Comrade Festus Alenkhe led Edo State NUJ executive. 


The motion was seconded by Comrade Maureen Nekpen Nwine from the State Information chapel. The house collectively adopted the motion and passed a vote of implicit confidence on the festus Alenkhe led Edo NUJ executive.
