Governor Godwin Oba
seki has just been recognized by Vanguard Newspaper Management as the Governor of the Year, 2021.
The hyperactive Governor is fast becoming the Poster 'Boy' as well as the referenced persona of governance progressivism. Our ancestors got it right, when they said: if anything becomes superfluous, even the blind would see it.
Obaseki has since commanded attention to his cutting edge economic acumen, and governance strategy, that has unpinned a stream of eulogies and recognition from across the spectrum and even in the international community. Even his worst critics will reluctantly concede.
When it is not Gov Umahi of Ebonyi, praising him effusively for " talking Economics", it is Gov Bala Mohammed tagging him the " best economist" of our day.
Nassarawa State would ask him to lead then to paths that grows economy and Bayelsa State would not also be left behind in that request. That is just to scratch the surface of daily eulogies .
Everyone is aware that Business Day has just given him the Bull's award from the Media sector, and just now, Vanguard wants to provide the icing on the cake.
The gush of commendations may well become a Governor, whose eclectic trajectory of governance activities and projects, is itself a study.
It is hardly possible to ignore a Governor that set up and running, an independent power project that provides 22 hours a day, electricity and guarantees 100% metering; powering industrial concern with employment potentials.
You want to notice a Governor that is bold enough to simultaneously be upgrading about 5 tertiary institutions of learning to competitive standards with State of the Art infrastructure.
That is, after engendering a novel basic and post basic Edobest learning strategy driven by technology! It is even harder to pretend not to notice that the same Governor is building a diversifying Agricultural economy with palm oil that is set to replace the moribund fossil fuel economy.
Governor Obaseki is pursuing institutional reforms, and succeeding. He is unyielding about staff welfare development and succeeding.
He has only just increased Edo State minimum wage above that of the federal government's. He is linking up strategic roads around the State. Not stopping there.
Governor Obaseki has dared to venture into long term, huge financing projects like: the Edo Industrial Park, Edo modular refinery, Edo River project, Edo Tech Park, etc. And all within a six year regime stretch.
All up and running, or ongoing. So, as I said, it is difficult to ignore such a Champion of good and prudent governance. A silent developmental achiever. You may take a bow Governor Obaseki, the World is your Stage!
