State Health Education Officer, Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency and Risk Communication Pillar lead, Edo State COVID-19 Response, Mrs. Irene Uabor stated this at a two day training for volunteers of Red Cross Society in Benin City.
Mrs. Uabor advised the thirty beneficiaries to put the knowledge gained from the training into practical use and ensure they continue to provide humanitarian services to better the society.
She said the state government would continue to support agencies such as red cross to contribute meaningfully to the well being of the people in the state.
Declaring the ceremony opened, former Chairman of the Red Cross Society of Nigeria and present Chairman, Edo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Festus Alenkhe called on volunteers ensure that they take all the doses of COVID-19 to prevent being affected by the virus as it was still very much in existence.
He said the training was key at this time when the youths needed to be enlightened on the need to educate others on the dangers of the virus to the society.
Comrade Alenkhe assured that red cross would continue to partner relevant bodies to train more volunteers in health related matters.
Edo State branch secretary of the society, Mr. Wilson Ekomogiaze said the essence of the training was to exposed volunteers to the importance of COVID-19 prevention and treatments.
He explained that the training which had thirty volunteers in attendance from Edo State, selected 10 each from three Local Government Areas of Egor, Etsako East, Esan West in the first phase.
He said the training is also taking place simultaneously in five states of the federation which include Edo, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Kogi and Bauchi.
