Edo Queens to employ a more devoted coach- Sabina

Crusaderhotnews

Permanent Secretary of Edo State Sports Commission Sabina Chikere, has said that the management of Edo Queens football club is working assiduously towards employing the services of a highly qualified, competent and devoted head coach to pilot the affairs of the team in the NWFL 2022/2023 Premiership season.

In a chat with Sports journalists in Benin, she expressed dismay over the performances of Edo Queens fc in the just concluded 2021/2022  NWFL premiership season. She was however optimistic that the team would do far more  better in the coming season.

"Edo Queens is a team that has become a house name in the annuals of Nigeria Women Football League NWFL.  We are doing very well, is just that towards the end of the 2021/2022 season their performance was really, really disappointing and  not what the people of Edo State expected.

But all well and good I think they tried,  just that their best wasn't good enough to make Edo people happy. They had all it takes in their pocession yet they couldn't really get to where we expected them to be.

We were all disappointed and I'm sure too they themselves were disappointed at the outcome of the season because the State government really did their best in making sure they were comfortable and had all the welfare packages you could ever imagine in the management of football in Nigeria.

But unfortunately they didn't leave upto to their expectation, but all the same we hope and pray that the next coming season will be better for one us."

On the forthcoming Federation Aiteo Cup she said:  "For the National Aiteo Cup that is coming up now, you know we just concluded the State FA Cup, and as the defending Champions we won it.

Efforts are being put in place to make sure we have a squad that will  be able to meet up with the expectations of our fans and the people of Edo State.

We are trying to see how to get the players in form, preparations are ongoing, they are still in camp, we just gave them a few days off after the Super 6 and FA Cup competition, they are currently training very hard, we all know that the former coach was dropped because of the performance in the NWFL 2021/2022 premiership season, and an interim coach was appointed to carry the players through to the end of the competition. We are also working very hard now to get a substantial manager, interviews are being done to make sure that we get the best so that what happened last season will not happen again. So we are putting all logistics in place to have a formidable team that every other team in the premiership would want to beat."

"We are really ready for the Aiteo Cup, I can  bit my chest to say the team have learnt their lessons with what happened in the Super 6, We have also invited players, they are currently training with the club and i know that the team is really ready to put in their best to make sure they come out top in the Aiteo Cup."

Whether there regrets working for Edo State she said:

"No nothing like such, I can never have any regret In fact,  Edo State government ably led by His Excellency Godwin Enoghaghese Obaseki and Rt. Hon.Comrade Philip Shaibu, have really brought out the best in me. I'm going to give my best to the State, I'm not going to let my employers down,  I will make the best use of this opportunity and be a part of the success story of the Obaseki-led administration."
