The Nigerian Police Force, Abia State Command has declared one Mr. Robinson Chijioke Gibson wanted for allegedly taking part in homosexual acts contrary to the Federal Government of Nigeria's same-sex marriage prohibition Act 2013, which was signed into law in 2014. The laws criminalising ‘carnal knowledge against the order of nature’ and ‘gross indecency’
Former President Goodluck Jonathan signed the bill into law that make it illegal for gay people to even hold a meeting in the country. The same sex marriage prohibition act also criminalizes homosexuality clubs, association and organizations, it carried penalty up to 14 years jail terms.
Robinson Chijioke Gibson of Ubakala town in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State is said to have been reported to the police by members of his community after he escaped mob action.
It was gathered that the culprit, who sources said has been engaging in homosexual practices in the community, was caught red-handed while making love to his partner, identified as Nonso Stephen.
A community source hinted that “we have been monitoring his activities for quite a long time. His neighbours always reported that a male partner always visits him and the noise that emanates from the room was suggestive of love making.
“You know such an act is a taboo; so that fateful day, 29th of May , 2022, the neighbours observed the same thing and alerted the neighbourhood watch.
“When we got there, we discovered that they were actually making love. So, we forced the door open and swooped on them.
“While the beating was going on, Robinson Chijioke Gibson managed to escape but his love partner, Nonso Stephen was not that lucky. He was almost at the point of death when he was taken away by the police.
“For us in the community, we have disowned and excommunicated Robinson Chijioke Gibson because what he did is an abomination.
“Sex is supposed to be between a man and a woman and not the other way round. So, he has ceased to be a member of our community, anywhere we see him around the community, he will face our wrath and that of the gods,” a community leader said.
Meanwhile, the Abia State Police command confirmed that the suspect, Robinson Chijioke Gibson, who is still on the run has been declared wanted.
The police further revealed that they have launched a manhunt for the suspect, asking the members of the public to assist it with useful information.
“The said suspect, Robinson Chijioke Gibson, is wanted by the Police for breaking the law of the country and he is also wanted by the villagers for committing an atrocity that is punishable by death.
"Anybody with useful information as to his whereabouts should assist us or report to the nearest police station ” a handsome reward awaits him or her." said the police spokesman.
