Cult clashes: The unending killings in Edo

Crusaderhotnews

In recent years, cult clashes in Edo State have claimed thousands of lives, yet there seems to be no end in sight.

From the several corpses that littered the streets of Benin, the state capital, in November 2020, to another five killed in early January, 2021, 40 others killed in July 2021, as about 19 persons have been killed thus far in this month of July, making it an harvest of cult killings in the state.

Findings indicate that the blood-thirsty Eiye cult group are mainly after the lives of those that refused to participate in their activities rather ignored their assignments

Their modus operandi is clandestine, and they attack members or those that refused to join them,

Sadly, their activities are no longer limited to tertiary institutions; they now operate freely on the streets, initiating naive young boys and girls into cultism.

The ugly development is fast eroding morals aty that level. The activities of the groups have led to the death of innocent residents.

Meanwhile, the continued cult clashes in the state have become a source of concern, as night life already affected.

Many residents of Benin told our correspondent that it had become risky to stay out late as no one could predict when the cult group would go out looking for the boys that refused to join or carry out their assignments.

Despite the Edo State Police Command ordered killings of the young youth , the cult group seem undeterred as recent events in the state have shown.

In May 2021, for example, suspected cultists went to one Ayemere Daniel Vincent-A and his elder brother house, were they reck havoc on them at Isihor town in Benin City..

The victims, where however, rescued by some Samaritans who rushed them to the hospital for treatment, this even as the daredevils later set the victims' house ablaze.

The horrific incident, which was recorded by some residents in the area later went viral on different social media platforms, leaving the community in great shock.

While the incident sparked outrage among residents, who called for the Ayemere and brother be taken to a safe place after police couldn't guarantee them safety due to the influence of politicians in the said group, three persons were reportedly shot dead at different locations in Benin by the suspected cultists.

One of the victims, identified as Nosa, said to be a friend to Ayemere and elder brother was gunned down around Ishior junction, NEPA Quarters, by members of the group who were allegedly in search of  Ayemere Vincent-A.

The killing was not restricted to the state capital alone as the cultists struck in Auchi on June 28 and most part of Nigeria, killing innocent people, especially boys with talents and skillful.

The Landlord of Ayemere, who craved anonymity while confirming the incident, said the area had been tensed since the incident occurred.

It was gathered that the hoodlums are hell-bent in eliminating Vincent A as they have allegedly spread their dragonets across the nooks and crannies of country and even beyond.
