More accolades have continued to pour in for the Executive Governor of Edo State Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for his continuous efforts in tackling the scourge of human trafficking, irregular migration and smuggling of migrants.
The latest commendation came from the Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mrs. Fatima Waziri-Azi who was a guest on a Channels TV programme "Sunrise Daily".
While responding to questions on how Edo have been able to successfully change the narrative and erase its negative history as it relates to human trafficking and irregular migration, Mrs Fatima Waziri-Azi who stated that human trafficking is now a national crisis and applauded the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki for his efforts over the years which have been able to reverse the ugly trend which has bedeviled the state and created a bad image for her citizens across the globe.
She specifically noted his administration's interventions which were primarily targeted at the youths by way of youth empowerment schemes with special praise for the EdoJobs programme initiated by Governor Obaseki.
" When you have some social economic and social political checks in place, it helps to reduce human trafficking and this is something Edo has done, they've invested a lot in youth empowerment and entrepreneurship and they have this fantastic programme called EdoJobs that is targeted at the youths" Mrs Waziri Azi stated.
She also highlighted the creation of designated courts in Edo state to prosecute offenders and carefully handle trafficking cases which has helped address the prosecution cases in the fight against human trafficking, smuggling of migrants and illegal migration.
