INTEGRITY- A BANKABLE ASSET IN THE TRASH CAN

Onoshoze of Edo.

Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.

The Random house dictionary defines integrity as the adherence to moral and ethical principles.

It is the practice of being honest and showing consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principle and value.

The attributes of integrity include; Honesty, probity, contentment, truthfulness, fair play, soundness and non compromising of principles.

Knowledge and affluence without integrity is dangerous and dreadful. Integrity is one of *Nolan's* seven principles of public life.

I am perplex by the growing decline in the moral fabric of Nigeria. So many people have developed the culture of intentionally being dishonest without provocation.

Some will say one thing in the morning and say a different thing in the evening. Lack of integrity is visible in both private and public sectors.

Many cheat their customers and lie to their employees. Politicians and their political parties write manifestos, campaign with those manifestos and win elections. Then, they turn around to deny those promises made during campaigns. *What a nation*!

According to maxi Sam Ohuabunwa, integrity is not just being truthful; It is not being trustworthy, principled, fair or wholesome in character and conduct. It is the combination of all the above.

The difference between a conman and a professional salesman is integrity. Both have all the skills to convince clients but the conman who has no integrity can only sell once while the salesman with integrity will sell over and over again to the same client. There is a wisdom  here for politicians without integrity.

Integrity is a bankable Asset but today, is in the TRASH CAN in this clime. When we have integrity, we gain the trust of the people.

We are dependable and when we hold ourselves accountable for our actions, we become role models for others to follow. And all these directly impact our success.

Nigeria need men and women of integrity as leaders. Leaders who can match action with words. Integrity is important in government because it helps to reinforce the credibility and legitimacy of those involve in policies formulation and decision making, safeguarding the public interest and restoring confidence in the policy making process.

Becoming a man of integrity requires determination by committing to a code of conduct. Integrity is a core value that cannot be trashed.

*A new Nigeria is possible*
