The representative of Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Stanley Ehiarinmwian, pours encomium on Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, for organizing a 3-day free medical check-up for members of the union. He expressed his view during the flag off exercise on Thursday, the 25th of August, 2022.
Dr. Ehiarinmwian applauds the union for being proactive in showing good example to have come up with a laudable initiative of organizing free medical check-up. As he puts it, “you don’t wait for disaster to happen. A lot of us want to fall ill before running to the hospital. As you all know, prevention is not only better than cure, it’s also cheaper”.
He continued, “We are happy for what is happening today, and the issue of health should not just be tied to a 3-day program like what we have on board”.
He advised that, “the concern for health should form part and parcel of our everyday life; sometimes being mindful of the things that you eat, and what you drink”.
In addressing journalists, Dr. Stanley Ehiarinmwian aptly added, “on behalf of the Honorable Commissioner for Health, this is a collaboration we have also supported in our own little way. We have been able to provide man-power and little medical equipment to make this exercise successful. So, we hope that we will continue to collaborate, and you will help us to pass the message”.
He also noted thus: “a lot is going on in the health space in Edo State, and only recently the state engaged some consultants to help us strengthen some regulations, and government is doing a lot to see that we upgrade the services rendered”.
Earlier, the Chairman of the State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comr. Festus Alenkhe earlier welcomed the dignitaries on the occasion.
He noted in retrospect as follows: “we assured journalists in Edo State of free medical checkup, because I know that we are too busy. We travel on daily basis, and we don’t have enough time to check ourselves. So, the current leadership of the NUJ in Edo State decided to bring the checkers to our door steps.
The Chairman also informed the audience that selected medical personnel was on ground, including doctors that would ensure continues vaccination exercise on COVID-19.
He said, apart from the first and second doses of the vaccine, the present exercise would be an opportunity to take the booster, which is the third dose. The exercise is slated to end on Saturday, the 27th of August, 2022.
