The Police authorities in Edo State said that it has received a complaint of threat to life of the Labour Party (LP) Unit Youth Leader in Benin City, the state capital, one Mr Henry Ransea.
Addressing Journalists in Benin City, the State Police Public Relations Office, SP Chidii Nwanbuzo, said that the threat to life was allegedly made by people suspected to the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
He disclosed that the police gathered that the suspected PDP and APC members have threatened to eliminate Henry if he did not stop supporting and mobilising the people for his Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Nwanbuzo added that the police learnt that the suspected PDP and APC members also vowed to eliminate Henry Ransea if his party candidate, Peter Obi did not win the forthcoming February 25, 2023 Presidential election.
He said: “The complainant; one Henry Ransea ‘m’ came to the police on October 25, 2022 to incident a case of alleged threat to his life against members of the APC and PDP in the state.
“The complainant, a Community Youth Leader for the Labour Party, informed the police that the members of the two parties (APC and PDP) vowed to kill him over his support for the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi in the forthcoming election.
“Henry Ransea was said to have been further threatened by two political parties if his LP and Peter Obi did not win the election, he Henry should run away from the country, else, he would be killed”.
He revealed that the police would soon commence investigation into the matter just as Nwanbuzor disclosed that no arrest has been made in connection with the incident.
In a similar development, a Chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) and the Edo State Coordinator of the LP's Presidential Candidate, Comrade Itua Umamwen, was on Saturday, October 29, 2022 reportedly hacked to death by suspected armed.
The brutal murder of Comrade Itua which occurred at Apico in Upper Sakponba Community in the state according to eyewitnesses is not unconnected with to his support and mobilisation for his party's presidential flagbearer, Mr Peter Obi.
Addressing journalists on the sad incident in Benin, Mr. Monday Umamwen, the younger brother to the deceased, said that prior to the Saturday, October 29 unfortunate incident, his brother has in different occasions escaped assassinations in the hands of unknown gunmen.
While lamenting that the brutal murder of his elder brother has thrown the entire family into mourning and further worsen the health condition of their aging mother, Monday, however appealed to the police to help brought to book the killers of his brother.
Also two members of the Labour Party members in Edo were allegedly gunned down by suspected political thugs in Uromi, Esan South-East Local Government Area of the state recently.
The two victims, Mr. Ehis Eberimen '35' and Isaiah Ebewele 25, were said to have been attacked by the hoodlums during a recent LP's Presidential campaign in the area.
The development, has continued to illicit condemnation amongst stakeholders in the state as there expressed fears amd worries that the labour party members and supporters are being killed at will with any effort by security operatives to apprehend the hoodlums.
