‘‘Training is key in improving efficiency among staff and is a continuous process, one that should only end at death’’.
The Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., represented by the Permanent Secretary, Human Resource, Edo State, Mr. George Igberaese, made the above assertion during a stakeholder workshop with public and private sector organized by the Edo State Government in collaboration with Technology for Development, an implementing partner for The National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy.
Urging the participants to take full advantage of the workshop, the Head of Service tasked them to always seek to refresh their memory and enhance their skills as the world at large is far advanced and keeps evolving due to Technology. He maintained that their expertise in technology will not only make them more efficient at their duties but will create more opportunities for them.
In his address, the Managing Director, Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), Mr. Goodluck Igbinedion, spoke on the progress of digital transformation in Edo State so far. He cited the E-Gov platform as a welcome development that has eliminated physical movement of files and memos across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAS).
Mr. Igbinedion expressed delight at the unlimited internet broad band available at all State Government buildings and 3CX telephone Online App that has made communication between staff of various MDAS efficient. He added that the state government under the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki has embarked on extending these measures to the local government and that these developments are currently at a 70% completion.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, ICTA, Mrs. Birgitta Okodugha who was also present at the workshop, said “the State Government is all inclusive and there is nothing it does without public collaboration”.
According to Okodugha, The Edo State Policy is going to be people owned especially with the addition of the digital Economy and that the Governor’s dream of making Edo State a Technology Hub is gradually taking shape.
In his remarks, Olu Adekunle the Monitoring and Evaluation specialist from The Nigerian Economic Group, affirmed that Nigeria is ambitious to become one of the top 20 in digital Economy and Edo State is already doing well in that aspect. He stressed the need for harmonization of ideas among stakeholders to further drive this vision.
