Gunmen suspected to be assassins, hired by a popular political party in Nigeria, has declared an investigative Reporter with the Galaxy Television, Osunde Osaigbovo Massy, wanted following the journalist's report about the planned assassination of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state
Recall that the ace investigative journalist narrowly escape death in the hands of political assassins during the February 25, 2023 Presidential and House of Assembly election in Edo State.
The family and children of the 49-year-old Osunde Osaigbovo Massy are also not left out in the current incident as their residence in Upper Sokponba Area in the state was deadly invaded by the suspected assassins, who apparently were looking for their target, Osunde.
It was gathered that the now at large Osunde Osaigbovo Massy's ordeal started few weeks to the 2023 general election in the country as he was allegedly said to have stumbled on a gathering of some All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains.
According to a source who preferred anonymous over fear of being killed , the suspected APC stewards were engrossed in a plan to attack the PDP mega rally in Benin, where no fewer than 15000 supporters of the PDP were expected in attendance.
The source narrated that on learning that the Journalist, Osunde was already aware of their planned attack on PDP members, decided to threatened the fleeing Osunde not to reveal their plans, hence, he will be executed.
"But Osunde who was now in a state of dilemma, decided to save lives, hence, he did a story on the planned attack of the APC.
"This was the beginning of his ordeal in the hands of the party as he Osunde shortly after the release of his story narrowly escape assassination on February 18, 2023", the source revealed
Not satisfied by not killing their target, the assassins were said to have in four occasions invaded Osunde's residence at Upper Sokponba in Benin City sometimes in April and May, June and July, 2023.
An eyewitness who spoke to our crime correspondent in confidence, said that after learning of the first attack on their residence, the family of investigative journalist, Osunde and the three children who were not at home during the first attack on their house, decided to disappeared into unknown location.
The eyewitness further stated that the assassins who unleashed terror on Osunde's house neighbours during their July invasion also destroyed Osunde's abode and his property worth millions of Naira.
This is even as the hoodlums also allegedly traced Osunde to his place of work at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council on August 5, 2023, where he Osunde also escape unhurt by whiskers.
As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts and safety of Osunde Osaigbovo Massy remain unknown.
