Benin City - Political thugery seems to be rearing it's ugly head again in Benin city as the youth Mobilizer of Labour Party(LP) Omoregbe Edoseghe Bright, has allegedly been

attacked by suspected thugs of political opponents less than 24 hours to the February 25 general elections in Edo state.

The influential LP youth leader Omoregbe Edoseghe who is also a manager a popular fuel station NIPCO Oil on Ogida Axis Siluko Road in Benin was reportedly attacked by armed thugs suspected to be the youth wing of the Peoples Democfatic Party (PDP) in Edo State in the premises of the fuel station but managed to  escape with various degrees of injuries.

The attackers numbering about 30 able bodied young men allegedly invaded the filling station on the 24th of February, less than 24 hours to the February 25 general elections with cut-to-size sticks, iron rods and other dangerous weapons ostensibly to scare and intimidate supporters of Labour Party who are said to populate that axis, owing to the strength and influence of  Omoregbe Edoseghe Bright and his men.

Eye witnesses accounts said the marouders damaged some fuel pump machines and other valuables during the invasion, adding that they looked prepared to set the station ablaze but for the quick intervention of the local vigilance group and some spirited neighbours who repelled them.

It was gathered that the manager Omoregbe Edoseghe Bright was already  given the beating of his life before he managed to escape.

The suspected thugs not satisfied

with their nefarious activity at the filling station, were said to have gone to Omoregbe Edoseghe's house and molested his pregnant wife Victoria to the extent that she lost her five months old pregnancy.

These attacks of the fuel station and Edoseghe's house came on the heals of similar overnight attack on some LP supporters' shops at the Ring Road Business District smashing tables and other belongings of the traders.

The attackers reportedly  threatened to return to burn down the traders shop should they vote for the LP's presidential candidate, Peter Obi on the February 25th presidential polls.

Meanwhie, Omoregbe Edoseghe Bright has gone underground after it became clear that he was the object of the attacks after some good neighbors helped to take his wife to Victory Hospital near Textile Mills Junction on Siluko Road where she was resuscitated.

Nigeria is imbued with incidences of voter intimidation and outright attaks for the simple reason of supporting the candidate of their choice in any election and the authorities have not been able to respond adequately in defense of their right to choices.
